Does anyone else find it very odd that this guy Pope couldn't hire someone to help him build the Taj Mahal for his wife? Just waiting for the day some sort of engineer convict came rolling through his prison?

Like who, exactly?

Michael was a structural engineer. Doesn't get much better than that.

I donno ... a hobby shop owner? Someone with a passion or job in building miniatures and models? An architect? A structural engineer who wasn't an inmate?

It was a convenience at the time and structural engineering could include things like building models and other stuff involved with architecture.

but would any guy be able to tell that the eighth wonder of the modern world would collapse because the stress wasn't properly propagated?

I used to be indecisive. Now, I'm not so sure.

Could be he was going to but then for the luck of timing Scofield ends up incarcerated at his prison. Pope also likes helping his prisoners such as putting them to work and such.
