What if any of the Americans or other volenteers had been captured by the Germans? Would they have been shot or maybe traded for germans being held?

I thought you may have meant would they have shot the Americans to make an example to any other 'outsiders' that were thinking about helping France/Britain.

Not sure about the black guy though, the Germans weren't Nazis in WW1 but it was an earlier time, wonder how they'd have treated him?
Interestingly, from what I've seen about the black fighter pilots in WW2 they were treated quite fairly by the (Nazi dominated) Germans when shot down and captured.
