Excellent supporting casting and art direction/CGI

The main criticism of this movie was that it wasn't quite "profound" enough or that it failed to show how truly difficult things were for Jackie and Rachel Robinson back in 1947.

For me though, it seems as though the producers wanted to make a tribute movie and from that angle they succeeded greatly. Reviews and message board comments usually don't mention the actor portraying Wendell the sportswriter, who added a lot to the story by being Jackie's confidante and protector. Plus that guy was really nice to look at in his period wide lapel suits and fedoras.

The actress portraying Rachel was perfect. She was as beautiful as the actual Rachel Robinson and many of the scenes of her playfully showing support for Jackie are quite touching.

Final the art direction and CGI really made it seem as though it was the late '40s, with breathtaking shots of Ebbet's Field and the Pologrounds. They even showed the University of Pittsburgh tower in the scenes at Forbes Field. All the street scenes, the scenes in Florida (much of Sanford, FL still looks the way it did back in the 40s, which probably helped a lot), the vehicles and all the clothing styles were impeccable.

The only flaw was that in some of the baseball action, the pitching didn't look quite realistic enough. In all, this is a touching, memorable movie that will take its place among the best sports movies of all time.
