the end reveals that john has in fact killed ingrid and her new boyfriend - everything else that happened was purely in his imagination as he obviously went "mad".

shareI know this is an old post I'm replying to, but I just saw this and I agree that it is disappointing. I've seen Chasing Sleep with Jeff Daniels and the Machinist with Christian Bale, and if you've seen either of those two, this one is obvious as heck from very early on.
shareI took from it as a warning of never being violent no matter how small an indiscretion, as it can destroy a relationship. If you had ever lose your temper with a girlfriend and smashed things or slapped her it would be like killing a part of you..and them. That's how I saw it..
