Santa Claus coat plot hole.

One of the biggest things that I didn't like about this movie is that it ignored the concept of the first movie. In the first movie, Scott was an overbearing obnoxious man who didn't have time for his child. Putting on the coat changed him into a more loving Santa Claus. He made more time for his child and even had time to talk to the other kids in the neighborhood. The third movie forgot the coat's powerful magic. Once Jack Frost's character put on the coat it should have changed him into a nicer guy too. Instead we got that cheesy let Lucy hug Jack and melt his frozen heart business at the end of the movie.

There once was a little black kitten called Angel.

but remember, lucy's hug came after everything went back to normal. scott went back to santa and frost was in blue outfit. as for the coat not making frost nice, mother nature said the power doesnt effect legendary figures. yeah frost wearing the coat canceled out scott as santa but i dont think frost BECAME santa, he just appeared as him and made the pole unlike it should. in other words, he was just inpersonating the real santa. OR with frost automatically being a legendary figure and having that cold hearted personality, that magic coat wouldnt have any effect, which in turn bringing back to just impersonating the real santa.

last surprise i got was in 2004 when jigsaw rose from the floor.

I think he actually became a hybrid of Frost and Claus. I also didn't really find Frost to be all that mean as Santa, the magic seemed to work a little. He kinda commercialized the North Pole, but think about it. He's still making kids happy, isn't that what Santa was all about?

reply

He makes kids happy out of the kindness of his heart; not how much you can pay. What of the poor kids and families that can't afford to buy their way onto the nice list? They don't deserve the happiness they would have got with Scott as Santa?

I don't think the suit had the power to change him from a bad person to a good person. I think deep down Scott was a good person just made the mistake of putting work before family. He wanted to be a better father even before the suit, and was happy that his son wanted to spend so much time with him. The powers of Santa did help him see the world in a different view and helped him along to become the Santa we see at the end of the first movie.

With Jack Frost his heart was always cold and all he wanted was the fame of being Santa without the responsibility. It would be interesting to see if instead of getting the snow globe if Lucy hug Santa Frost to melt his heart and he changed as Santa, but I think at that point it would be too late to set things right for that universe since the magic was gone.

I agree with your interpretation. Also, it's been stated that the powers of the Legendary Figures don't work on others of their kind. Frost becoming Santa is some kind of aberration (notice he still had pointy ears, spikey hair etc)that should not have happened, therefore the magic didn't quite work.

But yeah, Scott always loved his son and was a decent guy, he just wasn't very good at showing it. The experience of becoming Santa helped him learn.
