My review of The Break-Up

Here is why I loved The Break-Up: It does not take the easy way out. People were expecting a light romantic comedy, and instead got slapped upside down with an insightful comedic drama into the lives of a young couple falling apart. Now, it is not that dark as I make it out to seem, but in the end, it is darker and more serious than comedies these days. That is exactly the reason why the film got many hateful reviews. The mis-marketing hurt the film, and many hated it for being so depressing and more realistic, and that is why I, and a lot of critics that did get it, loved it. It is not you usual comedy, and it is actually not romantic. It has the usual comedic fare, but it shows us the real life version of a romance. Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn at times are very charming, but at other times they are so awkward together and unfitting, which is what the film is trying to prove. What would happen when two people who are not right for each other fall in love? That is the main question of the film, and it tries to explore that.

The Break-Up is easily one of the best comedies of the decade, possibly one of my favorite 'romance' families of all time, no, not romantic comedies, comedies about romances. Do not be fooled, it is not a date movie, and I hope that one day this film gets the recognition it deserves.
9/10
