Why do people think they weren't 'meant to be'?

I thought he was very sweet at the end doing all that for her, he realised his mistake, but I don't see why her feelings should have changed. People love each other despite their flaws, and when one side makes an effort to change for the better, and compromise- that's what a relationship is, and he was willing to do that for her because he loved her. It made me sad that she didn't feel the same way, when so many relationships end when the couple won't compromise- but he did.
So what made her stop loving him? Was it just that she thought he didn't care about her?
And in the end, when they seemed to be on good terms, why do people think they wouldn't be good together if they tried again?

Honestly, I think she'd just had enough. She had given him so many chances, and he only started changing for her in the very end. He realized what he was losing, someone he truly loved, so he tried to start changing. But she was over it, she'd wanted him to change earlier -- without her having to tell him multiple times. At least, that's what I get from it. Pretty sad, in my opinion.

I agree. I didn't really understand why her feelings changed. Maybe if she said she needed some space and then they could take a look at the relationship with a fresh perspective. She clearly had strong feelings for him and merely days before was devastated that he didn't show up to the concert. She was hoping to get back together with him. The way their relationship ended was not final. It was kind of one mistake after another, but I think they still have a shot (in imaginary movie-land). I think the break up was not meant to be.

I agree that she'd had enough. I think it ended for her sitting alone at that concert. She had indeed given everything that she had and there was nothing left to give. Spoiler included below for She's the One.

It reminds me of her character in She's the One in which her husband left her for Cameron Diaz. When Diaz leaves him he immediately calls up Aniston to reconcile but Aniston basically says thanks but no thanks. My husband asked why she wouldn't take him back and I basically said the same thing I said here about having had enough. Sometimes you reach the point of no return and both of her characters had reached it.
