Well, you're right. It's not very likely.
But, as a device for a fictional film, it was effective. It was completely surprising; it demonstrated how much MD valued Brooke...and how much she trusted Brooke to write a reasonable amount. Just like the statement that her job would always be waiting for her; it was a terrific device to show that MD was not the person we thought she was and that she had a great deal of respect for Brooke.
