Poland?

In the movie we see Gary wearing shirts that say POLAND and POLISH AND PROUD. Does somebody know if this is an inside joke or what? Just curious.

reply

not sure if it was a inside joke but there are a lot of Polish people in Chicago. highest pop. outside warsaw i think.ce there was also the polish flag in the 3 brothers office

His name was Grobowski so its likely they were of Polish heritage, and clearly proud of it.

Oh, why do I have to be Mr. Pink?

reply

I've been told, that his grandmother is polish, and she was raising him in polish spirit. So she made him very patriotic about Poland. Check out on wikipedia, there is said that Vince Vaughn has polish roots. But I don't claim this is 100% true, it is just what I've been told.

Just about the Polish heritage: here, in Poland, there's a tendency to say everyone who's a star is of Polish descent. So don't pay attention.
Second of all, anyone who claims themselves as being of foreign heritage (and doesn't speak the language) should say: Ok, so I don't speak ..., but I am proud that my parents/grandparents come from... If Vaughn didn't, there's no polish thing of any matter.

I think they based Gary Grobowski on the character Stanley Kowalski from the movie/play "A Streetcar Named Desire". Their names are strikingly similar, they're both Polish, and they share comparable characteristics.
