Not really a comedy
I really can't see how the break-up can be catergorised as a comedy to be quite frank. Don't get me wrong, it was a pretty good film, better in fact than what I was expecting...but it was more like a fairly serious drama with the odd bit of humour which added to the pathos. There were scenes of animosity and childish behaviour some what similar to say "War of the Roses" which no doubt this movie invited comparsions. But predominantly these were not played for laughs on any real scale. It seemed it was meant to be seen as more shocking and sad than funny.
The way in particular that Vince Vaughns character in the movie behaves is borderline disgusting and immature and in the end I think he's made to realise how petulent he's been. Even to some extent by his friend who runs the bar, played by Jon Favreau who I have to say was really good in this film. Annistons character's behaviour isn't entirely exemplary although to be fair she is goaded in to it and is the least guilty of the two but never the less...
I think the producers marketed the movie all wrong and the cover on the DVD and on posters certainly suggest that it is a comedic film and my partner and her daughter agreed with me. A shame really because this was a fairly good film but any one wanting to watch a decent comedy and have a good belly laugh actually might find them selves feeling a bit dissapointed and critiicse the movie as a result.
