Sorry all, this is a good movie. Great performance - Jennifer aniston in particular. Her confession scene about being appreciated is unreal. It seems like most complaints are about how horrible it was to watch two people struggle - holy cow, isn't this what movies are about - human interaction etc. So it wasn't such a nice ending but the character transformations were great. This is a refreshingly gritty flick :)
shareI think alot of teenage girls were pissed at the ending, and as we know, they make up the majority of the votes on IMDb. But you are right it was a great movie, and the scene you mentioned was brilliant. Plus, it had the old 97's on the soundtrack.

shareI agree. People are just used to seeing everything all wrapped up with a bow at the end. This was realistic.
I didn't like it so much at first as the characters are so stereotypical and Gary's charter is uber childish (seen it)...but then it starts to get deeper and by the end the two of them, especially Aniston, won me over. The ending is right for the film, eve if it isn't happy. It reminded me of "About Last night" (the movie based on 'Sexual Perversity in Chicago,'' the play) where they hurt each other, as people do, and in the end even though there is love there, it just doesn't work out.
Good film, but I think you need to have a few serious relationships under your belt to appreciate it properly. Not really for the teen-20s crowd.

I gave it a 3/10 - it wasn't the worst movie ever and wasn't particularly terrible, but it was supposed to be a comedy and I just didn't laugh at any point. The 3 stars are for Jennifer's performance, which was quite poignant at times, and I liked that they didn't get back together at the end, because Vince Vaughn's character was a complete *beep* and it isn't fun to watch them argue all the time, especially in a film that's meant to be a comedy.

I think they marketed it as a comedy and people were disappointed when they actually realised that it's a drama. I thought it was a very good film. Not an easy film to watch though.

I usually hate romantic comedies, but I liked this movie. It's way more likeable and less stupid than the majority of the rom-coms out there. It's not really a comedy, actually. Apart from a few funny scenes, it's quite realistic and serious. Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston were good.
I liked the ending, because it wasn't a happy, cheesy finale like those we see in every other romantic movie.
It's probably hated because people expected a silly comedy.

I give it a 7 too (or maybe an 8). I would have expected the average to be more like 6.5 - 7.5, except that people punish movies for not sticking to one genre. I like any kind of mixture between comedy and drama.

2012 is a BANNER year for superhero movies!
I'm very surprised at this low rating. Both times I saw it at the cinema I knew the audience was really into it and watched with interest. It turned out to be a good drama as well as a comedy, but I saw it mainly as a drama. Well acted, relatable. I'm constantly surprised when it comes to society and their taste in movies. This was a great movie. I think it deserves low 7s but high 6's at LEAST! This and The Hunted are two movies in the 5's that really shocked me.
No expectations, no disappointments.
I am a 27 year old male and I gave this movie a 9. It is completely accurate. Such a great portrayal of a couple on the rocks. I think people were disappointed thinking it would be a comedy. I wish Vince would do more films like this one. This movie deserves a much higher rating.
