you do not put ketchup on a Chicago dog

He mentioned putting ketchup on a hot dog at a Cubs game. That is a no no.

I imagine Vince Vaughn puts ketchup on everything, even fruit.

*I'm your stranger ... Jump!*

Why is it a no-no?

I'm not from Chicago.

Yeah. Who says?

Not bell peppers, they're sport peppers.

Some hot dog places in Chicago will give you a hard time or ignore you if you ask for ketchup.

reply

I thought he said mustard, not ketchup.

The night is a very dark time for me.

The no catsup hot dog rule is not a Chicago thing. The no ketchup rule started in NY, at Coney Island at Nathan's most likely.

Why is it a "rule"?

For me, it all boils down to the fact that I usually eat hot dogs (and hamburgers) with fries. I put Ketchup on fries.

So ketchup on the dog is overkill. I like the contrast that a dog with all that mean, crisp, acidic bite has. Mustard, onions, sport peppers, a bit of relish and celery salt.

And burgers, Mustard, onion and pickle.

I think that is the reason for the rule.

I gotta go to Superdawg tomorrow now.

I was born and raised in Chicago and I put ketchup on my dogs. I don't need it, but it adds a little flavor, so why not? I don't abide by the tradition.

"Oh, my God. Bear is driving! How can that be?!"

I am well aware about a lot of adults and not putting ketchup on a Hot Dog, but I still do not understand what the big deal about adults and ketchup on a Hot Dog, can somebody please explain it to me. But you are right he did say to the vendor "you better make it right" mustard and ketchup but it is not like somebody got on him about ordering ketchup on a Hot Dog. But come on there has to be worse things to put on a Hot Dog like syrup not sure why you would want syrup on a Hot Dog in the first place.

I stand by my original post on this thread - which was...

reply

I do. I don't like mustard, relish or onions at all, just ketchup.

This came up with a friend not long ago. He was disgusted that I prefer catsup on hot dogs, he a mustard guy.

My feeling is, I don't care how you like yours, I like catsup!

I was just logging in to say the same thing!
