That's really sad. And bizarre, because on the Channel 4 website, it says to "watch out for a new series next year," though I'm not sure what year that is.
Unfortunately it seems you're right: http://media.guardian.co.uk/broadcast/story/0,,2027204,00.html Quote: Channel 4 drama projects which are understood to have been shelved include plans for a third and fourth series of the teen drama Sugar Rush. And: The spokeswoman added that "there were never plans for a series three or four" of Sugar Rush, insisting: "It was concluded at end of the second series because we felt the girl's story had run its course."
Sugar Rush was awesome. It definately deserved a new series. I mean anything could have happened. Saint and Kim have a relationship with any regular problems and Sugar was always getting in and out of trouble. It never stopped being funny either or interesting either.
Glory: I need a brain Minion: Take mine, oh groovestastic one
I just got caught up on the show, it's SUCH a bummer it won't continue.
As for the ran its course note from the channel... In what universe?!
There are so many stories left untold. Would have been mighty fun seeing how Kim and Saint deal with living together and what mess Sugar got into this year.
I'm very sad to see this show not picked up again.
You'd think the station would reconsider after they've won the International Emmy for best show.
This is sad to read but perhaps for the best. Both series were hugely enjoyable and it would be awful if the 3rd series had sucked because the writers had run out of ideas.
I'm currently rewatching my DVDs of Sugar Rush and I can't believe Channel 4 would be so stupid and shortsighted as to think there was no need to make anymore Sugar Rush.
Someone in the thread said that they had an email from Ch4 saying they thought the characters storylines had run their course. In that case they should sack their lazy, unimaginative writers as there was loads of untapped potential in the storylines of all the characters.
I'd say the main thing they needed to address was, as seen in the cafe scene at the end of series 2, the fact that Sugar obviously has some sort of feelings for Kim beyond just friendship. That combined with Sugar now living with Kim and Saint, Stella having a baby, the possibility of new characters being introduced, quite easily you have the 5 hours of television needed for a new series.
However, there is another reason why Ch4 won't be making more Sugar Rush, money. Ch4 has had it's drama budget totally frozen meaning it's had to halve it's production of new dramas. Once again TV execs seem to think that money is more important than producing high quality television.
I think it's bloody criminal that Ch4 can shelve a fantastic programme like Sugar Rush whilst still subjecting the public to the idiotic rubbish that is Big Brother.
Dear Buddha, please send me a pony and a plastic rocket.
i love that series so much mind you... i live in the us. my region code is 1.dvds from england don't work here and you have to get a special dvd player to play em.i was willing to do that. i payed 40.00 in total to get both seasons on dvd.
freaking idiots for canceling especially after winning outstanding teen series (comedy).
I'm just so bloody angry that Sugar Rush has been cancelled (or shelved as the Guardian put it) as it's a fantastic show and there's so few programmes on TV these days that genuinely reflect what it's like being a gay teen in the UK.
Channel 4 is a publically funded channel and I think it's disgusting that they can pump so much money into rubbish like Big Brother (and especially Celebrity Big Brother) and yet not make another series of a great show like Sugar Rush.
Dear Buddha, please send me a pony and a plastic rocket.
One is that the Guardian said SR had been 'shelved', which could mean that they will make another series, just not yet. Unlikely though
The other is that I'm not totally sure I believe that it has finished. C4 could being doing that thing were they say they aren't making another series just to get more attention. Also, there are 2 to 3 months before the series was supposed to start.
Time enough hopefully.
"It's not the despair. I can stand the despair. It's the hope."
I think we should start a campaign to support the show. Maybe it won't bring it back (who knows?) but at least it will show to Channel 4 that they were many fans who really carred about it because it had so much potential...
So I thought that we could all send in an enveloppe a little piece of candy sugar with a note saying "We desperately need our Sugar fix... Please bring Sugar Rush back!" I think it's a great idea. So if you like the show, please do this and send the note and the piece of sugar to this adress : Channel 4 Enquiries PO Box 1058 Belfast BT1 9DU ENGLAND
in another forum thingy someone said they searched it on wikipedia and that apparently they started filming in january and will continue for about 3-4 months sdgjdfjg i hope they do do another series !
