Reference to Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit?

Does anyone else think the "Fairground" scenes were a subtle homage to the TV Mini-Series of Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit or am I reading too much into it?

Ooh i never made that link before... perhaps it was inspired by Oranges. But then Brighton is almost a character in sugar rush, and there's a fairground on the seafront, so a fairground sequence seems an obvious thing to include anyway.
