I don't think it's gonna make any difference but I've commented just in case.. i'm really upset. Channel 4 should burn in hell.
Can't they pick another tv company to continue the show? that'd be amazing.

reply

ye i thought that 2 im sure another company would love to take on the show i mean its not as if it has poor ratings it a fabulous show and deserves a 3rd series. The show still has loads of mising holes and id love to no what happens next in kims story

haha so funny im straight and i love the show its stupid people like you who sit at home watchin big brother in the holidays instead of good drama which as a heart to it
go post your vile sum where else

reply

I'm straight too and i loved it!! I agree with you Krusty :0) They cant cancel it and repeat rubbish like BB . Sugar Rush brings up important issues.

It is probably too deep for monkeys who enjoy watching dumb chavs trying to get famous on shows like BB.

reply

i really hope that some other channel is willing to taken on the show

reply

Does anybody know if this interview been printed yet? I've looked on the site but cant seem to find anything other than the comments section.

reply

reply

I think it was a fantastic show but I think it kinda came to an end at the right time

reply

normal people? Hmmm... like you?
Sugar rush was JUST for gay people, or ABOUT gay people.
It showed family life, when a love one cheats, when a parent leaves. Drug and drink issue. teenage life.
So in future you sad little homo-phobic GIT, try keeping your 'normal' comments to yourself?

You know, I was just going to post that I loved the show, and that I'm straight. Mind you, I'm also a man.

But, in all seriousness, even if it hadn't featured fit teenage lesbians, I would have enjoyed it. Not only was it funny, but it had some real emotional weight behind it, when it wanted to. I'll mourn it's passing.

reply

Here in the U.S. we have The L Word on Showtime. It's been going for five seasons and has been enormously successful with gay and straight audiences. I think Sugar Rush would have been very successful on an American premium (pay) cable channel. Unfortunately the premium channels don't buy series from British companies like the non-pay channels do or they prefer to do collaborations from the start like Universal did with Battlestar Galactica.

There is no way Sugar Rush could ever appear on a non-premium cable network, even at three in the morning, so the circumstances aren't right for an American network to save the show. Best case, a premium cable channel could do an American remake of it.

reply

^ but see an american remake just wouldnt work. one of the best things about sugar rush is that it had a british setting and had typical british teenagers and british humour. they could do a version of it, like the office did but the british sugar rush would always be better. the usa version of sugar rush i'd say is already made, south of nowhere, which sugar rush is by far better then.

reply

What makes you say South of Nowhere is a remake or version or anything of Sugar Rush? They were made at the same time and the characters and plots are completely unrelated. SoN also very low-budget with second rate acting and writing because it's on a cable channel that isn't carried by most cable companies.

I think an American remake (a real one) on a real cable network would work. People would watch it and it would certainly last more than two seasons.

reply

i meant south of nowhere was like an american version of sugar rush because the characters were about the same age and they were both focused on the teenage lesian coming out theme. it just seemed to me like the american version of it, cos i couldnt see an american version ever being allowed to show the themes of underage sex and drug taking thats prominent in sugar rush, i figured south of nowhere was about as close to an american sugar rush that you could get. i may be wrong though :P

reply

SoN really doesn't focus on one character like Sugar Rush did. And the acting, bleh, is about soap opera quality probably because it's shot as fast as possible to save money. It's a typical MTV thrown-together production, just slightly more professional than their reality shows and I personally didn't find more than a couple of episodes all that interesting. MTV networks don't really produce high quality scripted shows. Since it's a "free" cable channel, it has to avoid almost everything that Sugar Rush dealt with explicitly.

If you want to imagine what could happen with an American Sugar Rush, check out the L Word which has fantastic drama, outstanding acting, explicit themes and is actually getting better every season. In fact Showtime bought the acclaimed Queer as Folk after Channel 4 dumped it after two seasons (gosh, sound familiar?) and kept it going for five pretty good seasons here so I don't see why they couldn't buy Sugar Rush, unless they felt it would compete with the L Word.

BTW, is it a Channel 4 tradition to create excellent shows and dump them after two seasons? Charlie Hunnam said the network was a pain to work for and they often "forgot" to pay him.

Does anyone have any actual prove that season 3 has been cancelled? I can't find anything that either confirms or denies a third series, anywhere.
Re-runs of series 2 start on 7th June though, so maybe a new series will begin after that!

reply

Look on this board, on one of the threads there's a repsonse from Channel 4 saying they felt the storylines on Sugar Rush had run their course and they weren't making any more. Personally I can't think of a more short sighted, ridiculous scheduling descision. Sugar Rush was an excelled programme that was no where near the end of it's potential for storlines.

If they didn't have that stupid BB live feed maybe it could've happened.

ya know summit... Its a shame whenever anyone mentions BB, first thing they say is JADE. god leave the girl alone. she WASN'T the only raciest in the house.
What the BRITISH and INDIAN press missed.... or chose to miss was that wacko jacko's brother calling jackie WHITE trash, which is a raciest comment towards white people, as bad as calling a pakistan man/women a pakki.

But.........
Back onto the issue at hand.... sugar rush.. Channel four R pretty *beep* at getting the good programes and letting them have a good few years, i mean cancelling it now, is silly. It has good ratings and the DVD's sales are goig well. ( My mate works in HMV) lol

Fingers crossed they will look into this more and change there minds, or some other channel that actually cares about ratings and giving the public summit good to watch will pick it up. Never know, stranger things have happened in life.

P.S - sz about spellings, i cant b arsed to read thru wot i ave wrote, so my sorry is there for the big mistakes.

reply

You can't count on channel 4 for anything.

Why can't they just pick it up for a 3rd and 4th series, but on a different channel?! I want my sugar fix, god dammit!

When black/asians are racist to whites on tv it goes unoticed its *beep* unfair!

Most black people i know dont find the 'n' word offensive and i dont see why they should it never use to be offensive they should get over it.

Still love Sugar rush.

Does anyone think that the SR petition that was up here a while ago made any difference? Anyway, I doubt C4 will pick up any more seried, it's been too long, but I'm going to give other channels until summer 2008 before I give up hope completely

"It's not the despair. I can stand the despair. It's the hope."

reply

I don't understand why they've cancelled Sugar Rush claiming they have no time slot for it, yet they have been showing season 2 repeats after Big Brother :S

reply

It's all becos' of TRIPE like BB and BB Big Mouth and BB's Little Brother etc... Stupid show takes over Channel 4 every summer and I wouldn't mind but it's RUBBISH like!! This show will just go down on the list of TRAVISTIES IN TV along with "Dead Like Me", "Miss Match" and "Tru Calling".... Y even BOTHER to watch a TV series anymore?? These days there's a 90% chance it'll get cancelled after a few episodes and you'll be left hanging after FALLING in love with certain characters and getting involved in the story-lines!!! :( :( :(

reply

omg i totalyy agree with you on this one!there's no point watchin a show because as soon as you start it gets cancelled. x

I came across a clip of this show on youtube. It seemed so interesting I came here to find out more. I wanted to buy/rent this but I couldn't anywhere.(Im in USA)I'm sorry that this show was canceled and I really wish I had the chance to see some of it. From what I can tell it was nice. I hope everything works out for the fans.

Thinking about this I am saddened. Despite the fact this thread is going back quite a few years I would have enjoyed seeing past what we did. I was always a little eh.. about season 2, LOVED season 1 and it would have been interesting to field those questions I still have.

Like what happened between Kim and Saint? Did Sugar and Kim ever go there again? What happened to Beth? And of course what happened to Kim's family & the baby due? So many questions I have, I'd love to have seen them answered or at least a few. So disappointed. There's too much fodder on TV nowadays and I miss my Sugar Rush. :(
