Is this the end?

The 18-49 demo and audience are creeping lower and lower, how much longer do they let it go?

reply

I really don't know, I thought last season might be the end.......
I think ratings might go up a bit during Shemar's "guest appearance" but then back down. Also, if they set out to promote a lot of hype for an episode (Like, what I think they did for the premiere) ratings might go up too

Do you think it's time for the show to end..?

reply

I do, its not been great for awhile.

Every ensemble has your A list and B list cast. These cast members along with the writing of the show is what drives the audience to tune in. This show has no A list members left. Gideon at first, Hotch and Morgan over the rest of the time were a huge part of what made Criminal Minds successful. Don't get me wrong Reid and Garcia are great, but they are great supporting character. They shined best with the characters that are no longer on the show. Like the McGee situation on NCIS without DiNozzo. Luke is a fine character but for the longest time his interaction with Garcia felt very forced. Simmons is a solid addition but he comes from a failed show. JJ and Prentiss have always been solid additional cast members but nothing else. Prentiss just doesn't work for me as section head, she doesn't help carry the show. Rossi replaced Gideon, but not as a lead he has always been supporting mentor character. I am not sure why Tara is in the cast, she is just kind of there most of the time.

Its stories have largely been so-so for awhile, the cast isn't very strong now, the scratch thing was stretched way to far, and ratings are dropping. I think if you really respect the show the writing has been on the wall for awhile now and it should just be cancelled.

reply

It should be. I'm surprised Season 12 didn't end the show, but CBS seems to really enjoy it.

reply

Well the ratings for the return of Morgan did not improve from last weeks less than great showing. Perhaps it will rise a little better with the +7, but its going to drop below 1 in the key demo as the season goes along. It already has plenty of eps for syndication deals, so I cant see this continuing much longer.

I also think it might get the boot after this season, ratings are down and Reid and Garcia are the only originals left, (JJ joined in Season 1, episode 2, technically not an original but very close.) ER and Law and Order continued with no originals but it's pretty rare.

reply

I think both ER and Law and Order did good job of replacing talent and making them stand out. Criminal Minds really hasn't done that, they survived Gideon going, but no one has really stepped in to replace Hotch and Morgan. I think they may have been too important to survive them both leaving so close together.
