Anachronism

At one point when discussing rumours about Wallis, Prime Minister Baldwin mentions the KGB. This was only founded in 1954, as a quick Web search will show. The equivalent organisation in 1936 was called the OGPU. Why didn't the writers check such an obvious fact?

Maybe its because the average person wouldn't know who or what the OGPU is - I sure didn't. I've heard of the KGB however - so I think they were aiming at effectively putting the point across rather than 100% accuracy.

Glad to see your post, doc! Saved me the trouble of starting it myself, and glad to see I'm not the only one to notice the error. A simple way for them to have avoided both the error and puzzling viewers with the unfamiliar correct initials would simply have been to refer to "Soviet secret police" or something like that. But to do that they'd have had to know KGB was wrong, which it seems they did not. Ah, so many details to check in a historical drama.

Churchill also referred to David as "Your Majesty" while he was still Prince of Wales. I don't think accuracy was a priority on this project.
