Was released on DVD...

Canada: 24 May 2011

... except many Canadian rental and sales outlets got "Blood Creek" back in January of 2010!

WTF?? I've been noticing this happening so often. I mean, I can understand a difference between Bulgarian and Canadian release dates (that's why they put "Region Coding" on DVDs; with Laserdiscs, you were getting situations like Pulp Fiction being released on LD in Japan 6 months before it came to theatres in North America), but I don't understand this Canada/USA difference at all. I mean, isn't that the reason we're both designated "Region 1"?

In March two movies got "released" in Canada that had been released 18 months prior in the USA... and at my two local video stores. It wound up being an absurd situation where the stores had to get the movies out of the "Old Releases" section, and put them back (18 months later!) in the "New Releases" section!

Does anybody know what's going on here?
