Awful

The acting is passable and the concept interesting but the film is so
poorly written as to defeat any positives. Thirty minutes in and the
film could have ended. If you want to kill a houseful of people, why go
in and chase them down one at a time, risking capture or injury, just set the house on fire and shoot them as they come out or let them burn up. Sure, he was looking for one person in particular but what did it matter, he knew exactly where to look and found him within minutes anyway. Story over. Or he could have brought the police and story over. Ultimately there is no reason for the last hour except as padding and that is exactly how it felt.

The opening 5-10 minutes I thought it might be interesting. Then it just turned into another boring backwoods horror/quasi-zombie movie.
Utter crap.

You are right. It started well, but tuned into a crap. What a pity for Schumacher, because of whom I saw this garbage.

Actually your interpretation is what I consider awful.

First the idea of burning the whole family in cold blood lacks the humanity aspect of the movie. In other words, he only demonstrated the desire to kill the creature and it can be easily assumed was more than willing to leave the family alive for prosecution.

Second, he needed to know where the monster was so that he could be sure to kill it and so killing off the family in such a blazon fashion may have prevented him from locating the creature.

Third, it was spelled out by the creature himself towards the end as to the reason why he purposely set Dominic’s character free; it was because he could sense that his anger from being tortured all those years would ultimately bring him back for vengeance. However, the creature was using that vengeance with the intent on being set free. It’s important to recall that neither brother knew that the creature was actually being contained by the family until after they held the family captured. So his need for vengeance explains why he didn’t bring the police.

It's not the best horror movie but it was entertaining enough. Your opinion is what it is and I hold no disrespect about you not liking the movie but your explanation as to why it is awful is well ....AWFUL in itself.

He killed all but two and I think it could be easily assumed he would have killed the mother and probably the girl if his brother wasn't there to stop him.

so killing off the family in such a blazon fashion may have prevented him from locating the creature.

There was that possibility, I'll give you that. My point was he chose the riskiest option considering he had already been captured once and tortured every day for a year. I don't think many people would risk that again for simple vengeance when there were nearly risk free options available.
