wow this sucked!!

if ur looking for a horrifing time at the theaters then dont see this movie.this was so bad that i laughed and left halfway throught the film to sneak into revenge of the sith.i actually thought that beginnings was scarier than dominion.this one didnt have a momont of horror or any elements of suspense.beginning was sadly better than this one.i didnt like beginnings much but at least i jumped out of my seat more than once.here i was just bored and wondering when the plot would kick off.this was more of the story of father marry rather that horror.i understand that there has to be a backstory to the characters but this was so long and boring that i felt so ripped off.now i see why morgan creek productions decided to refilm the whole thing over again.

reply

If you left halfway through then you didn't see the whole movie. If you didn't see the whole movie you can't judge it fairly.

You're not supposed to "jump out of your seat" in an Exorcist movie. If that's what you were looking for, go rent a slasher film and leave supernatural films to those who want to be horrified...

reply

yes you are.ITS A FRIGGIN EXCORCIST MOVIE!!! they are known to scare people not bore them with hardly any suspence!! there were times that scenes were very intresting but they hardly deliver anything.i didnt feel the slightest feeling of beign scared through out the whole movie!! if this is what you call a supernatural film then this sucks!!!!!

reply

[deleted]

which is?please enlighten me because you have obviously "grown up". i'm sorry if i pissed anyone off but there is a difference between telling weather a movie is good or bad and this one is just a mother*beep* bad one.so please do go on and "correct me" how i would love to hear your pathetic "meaning of films".cuz this movie has BAD written all over it!!

reply

[deleted]

i didnt say it was about action and anyways it wasnt that bad i just felt really dissapointed by this cuz i was looking real foward to it.

reply

Excuse me, but the "TRUE MEANING" of the Exorcist series is to MAKE MONEY. I'm sorry... MORGAN CREEK obviously knew they had a DUD when they initially screened Schrader's version. They made THE BEGINING which also was a total disaster. It's obsessessed fans like you who REFUSE to see that DOMINION is a steaming pile of EXCREMENT and that Morgan Creek was RIGHT to have shelved it in the first place. Yes, the cinematography was better than THE BEGINNING as was the acting, but over all DOMINION was an utter SNORE-FEST!!!!

reply

[deleted]

To William Peter Blatty & William Friedkin, I'm sure the original film DOES mean something to them. But I did NOT see either of them running out to write/direct DOMINION/BEGINNING. Both SCHRADER and HARLIN did it for the MONEY!!! Don't get all reverent on us. GEEZ!

reply

Which reminds me... I KNOW Blatty really wanted to do his uncut EXORCIST: THE VERSION YOU NEVER SAW. He was passionate about that. Friedkin always resisted until a few years ago. Despite what Friedkin says, i believe he agreed to the recut for $$$ as well. The final result was a bastardize version of the original. Those superimposed Pazuzu faces here and there and other tricks CHEAPENED the effect of the original film. Yes, it was neat to finally see the spider walk sequence, but the original version is still the best.

reply

"with hardly any suspence"

When the hell did jumping out of your seat mean suspense?

Bender: So they've sent a helpless child to kill me.

reply

People, please!. Stop using the word retard or retarded to describe things or people you don't like or disgree with.

reply

But it wasn't 'the story of Merrin' that sent audiences running from theatres screaming in '73.

reply

>>>Retard. The whole point of the film was to tell the story of MERRIN.<<<

Actually, NO.
And the studio agrees with me.

The whole point was to make a scary movie WHILE telling the story of Merrin.

Both movies sucked like a tornado.

Exorcist the Beginning was just bad.
Dominion was a snoozer.

Two tries and the two results both sucked the big one, but both in different ways.

But since Shrader directed movies like "Hardcore", "Light Sleeper" and "Cat People", i'm forgiving him for this lapse, although i must agree with the studio (damn Shrader for making me agree with a studio for axing him and his movie) that Dominion was just too damn boring and uninteresting (and at times even laughable) to release.

By the way, if it was Shrader who cast Clara Bellar in "Dominion", then he deserves to be fired twice.
I never heard of her before, and after seeing her in "Dominion" i never want to hear of see her again.

Even Izabella Scorupko's hamfest in "Exorcist the Beginning" was better than this black hole of charisma.

reply

You see, this is the kind of crap we have to put up with some moviegoers. They just suck. This guy obviously doesn't understand anything.

"I didn't like beginnings much but at least I jumped out of my seat more than once"

That's the stuff of bullcrap.
If this is what people think horror, than they are gravely mistaken, and we are doomed to see more of this kind of crap in the future. Real horror creates a sense of foreboding, a sense of terror. Horror is not cheap scare tactics where the object is to get you to jump out of your seat.

Dominion reigns supreme over The Beginning with an iron f'n fist.

Dude, you need to calm down. You're being crazy. I don't doubt that it's a bad movie, I agree with this franchised being milked for all it's worth. But, if you're watching the original with the idea of "jumping out of your seat," you're missing the point. The point is to send you into thought about whether or not that could possibly happen, and scare you while you're trying to sleep. It's to delve into the fears in your mind, that's what makes a movie scary. Not the "jumpy" moments...

reply

Everyone's opinion matters. There are a lot of bad reviews of this too, you know. The first review I read of it gave it 0/5, and it was from a pretty good critic. He feels different to how you do about the movie. Get over it.

reply

It won't freak you out, because there is nothing freaky in it.
It will move you only if you are REALLY sensitive (maybe the first 10 minutes will move you).

My guess is it will make you hate it.

reply

Dominion is another thing that ain't horror.

Not unless you're a priest suffering from loss of faith.

Dare to tell me that anything that happened in this movie made you feel anything bad was going to happen to one of the protagonists.

Don't even think of pulling the wool over my eyes. I've been a horror fan for over 20 years, and i like all kinds. Atmospheric, moody, scary, gory, "cerebral" etc.

Dominion is NOT horror, it is simply a snooze fest made by a man who took 40 million dollars of the studio's money and decided to make his own pet project of guilt and faith (what else is new for Shrader?)

Paul Shrader made some damn good movies, like Hardcore and Light Sleeper.
He even made a pretty good horror movie before (Cat People).

But Dominion is an utter failure as a horror movie.

reply

Ignore the *beep* responding so violently here. Though I feel that you can't really judge it if you walked out halfway through, I'd like to be the first to say I respect your opinion.

Exorcist has been a confused series all through, since the first. The original films had so many different levels of success, and so many people like it for so many reasons, the sequels were destined to bomb - because the directors all tried to recreate just one of the great faces of the film; Exorcist II bombed because there was no gore or shock-scares or suspense in it - it just went with the psychological, spiritual stuff from the original, and Exorcist: The Beginning bombed for the exact opposite reason - all gore and shock scares and no depth, psychology or spirituality.

Therefore the series has many faces - in fact to the point where we even get two versions of the prequel, simply because the movie industry just don't get that it's neither the spirituality/psychology or the scares that made the Exorcist what it is - it was the combination!

If you want to see a film which does cut it like the original Exorcist, check out Exorcist 3. You should like it.

In the mean time I'm going to attempt to say some things in your defense to these *beep*

I think the fact that you left halfway through to go and watch a film which values special effects over the ability to act suggests that you're perhaps not in the best position to provide an insight to what makes good cinema.

reply

I found Exorcist III to be scarier and more enjoyable than the first (as much as the first scared me). OH MY GOD!!!! I SHOULD BE SHOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

reply

i also have to agree that dominion was not that great. the begining was way better. i am a big fan of the original. it was very disturbing and thats the kind of scare that exorcist movies should have. the begining had some scary scenes without the BOO tactics. dominion had non and the ending was cheesy more than anything.

reply

[deleted]

the kid turning into the dali lama floating crosslegged was not cheesy? hahaha.

Regan-copycat makeup?? its an exorcist movie...therefor "exorcist make-up".

regan was making sexual gestures and so its fitting that this chick was too

and what do you mean its not suppose to be scary? its a horror movie not a drama.

theres a reason why this movie was remade, and whatever i stated above strongy contributes.
