wasn't Liam Neeson supposed to play Merrin?

since billy crawford is starring here, wasnt liam neeson supposed to be father merrin? i once read of an Exorcist Movie in the making as sort of like a tribute to where the 1970s exorcist film was inspired from, starring crawford and neeson. this was even before exorcist the begining was finished.

i wonder what happened to that

He was lined up to do it when John Franenheimer was set to direct, but Schrader went for Skaarsgard after taking over when he died I think.

Doesn't make sense to me, but then you are very small

well yeah i guess you have a point. making liam neeson would make the film too mainstream. but i think liam neeson couldve done a good job.

I actually remember seeing a poster somewhere online, with Liam Neeson on it; was supposed to be for The Beginning. So was totally confused when he ended up not being it it. But the actor that played Merrin did an excellent job. But I will contradict myself and say that Neeson would have still done a good job though lol, I do agree jf-32.

i called the production office when liam was attached in october of 2001. they were scheduled to shoot in the middle east and the project was abandoned for months and months because of september 11th according to the production office receptionist. they lost liam along the way.

I think Liam Neeson would have brought a gravitas to the character not seen since Max Von Sydow's portrayal. Liam Neeson is a fantastic actor, with a brilliant sense of how to bring a character to life. If anybody else had played Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars Episode I, then I think the movie would have been slated EVEN MORE than it was before.

I was disappointed when Liam dropped out, but I think Stellan Skarsgard did a very good job in Dominion AND The Beginning.

P.S. Dominion is miles better than The Beginning.

But Helen Mirren was in another version playing a sex starved dwarf nun; that version was written by Omar Koltz and was directed by somebody they forgot.

Thats because Stellan and Sydow are both Swedish actors

And don't forget they always wear bicycle clips while mowing the lawn.
