Come on Morgon Creek. You messed up with the prequel (and still haven't paid Blatty) Restore your previous act of cinematic vandalism. According to Mark Kermode the original version of Legion (released half hacked to death and dragging obviously tacked on scenes as Exorcist 3) is one of the most moving films he's ever seen. If he's seen it why can't we?
It would be very nice to have Blatty's cut of Exorcist 3, entitled "Legion: Sequel to the Exorcist". Would give us a whole nex Exorcist trilogy to look at.
Wow, this is the first I've heard of an alternate version of Legion. Does anybody know any details about what got cut out? I'd be very interested to see if anything involving Amfortas's storyline from the novel was filmed.
The only tracked scenes are the actual exorcism and the added sequences with Father Damien. In Blatty's cut, only Dourif appears as patient X... which I would have preferred, but I think in retrospect some of the sequences with Damien help the audience make the connection between the detective and the patient x character. The exorcism is silly, though. That said, Exorcist III is probably my favorite of the series. Blows the pants off the first one in terms of dialog and acting.
That said, Dominion is a horrible film... Doesn't matter who did it. The Schrader version is an example in how to make a film bereft of soul. Wish he'd write a book about it. That's how bad it is.
