Why did they remake Exorcist Beginings?

If the beginning was released in 04, but Dominion in 05, it would only make logical sense to assume the latter to be a remake of the former. :P

hey thanks alot for the input yourbestestpal, much appreciated, i honestly like both films, but dominion really does follow the feeling of the series better. Nice to get the main actors thoughts. (espechially on such a weird situation, i never heard of a movie being shot, then re-shot with a different director, before. Closest thing may be superman 2.)

It often happens that directors are changed at the end and scenes reshot, except in this instance, Schrader was an executive producer and wanted his version released. That's not happened before, at least, not that I know of.
