stellan looks nothing like max von syndow

(sorry about the spelling) why'd schrader cast him as father merrick (syndow's role in the original)? don't get me wrong. i love him as an actor and he did a great job but i'm just curious as why they cast him. is just cause they're both swedish (and good)? lol

Imagine though, they had originally cast Leim Neeson in the role. I think that may have worked. He and Stellan often get mistaken for each other.

I agree. Neeson appears more gaunt than Skarsgard, closer to von Sydow.
