What a piece of S##T!

Garbage. Plain and simple.

A pure gem contrasted to The Beginning. Dominion has a Blattian "feel" and is chiefly about a priest regaining his faith. Just contrast Dominion's DVD cover with Beginning's.
Beginning's has a "scary", growling demonic face; whereas Dominion has a simple profile of Merrin kissing his Rosary. That difference alone underlines the difference between the two films. Dominion, though slow, is a much more thoughtful and theologically-informed film.

A gem? Blattian? Blatty built up a foreboding and sense of fear throughout the story, it was genuinely creepy. This film was philosophical and interesting, but I cannot agree that it was entirely in line with what Blatty would have done himself. It was too soft.

Thanks for your comments, but I only called the film "a gem" in contrast to Exorcist: the Beginning. That is, I was making a relative judgment and contrast. I was not claiming that the film is a gem compared to the Friedkin Exorcist, or, say, Casablanca.

I cannot agree that it was entirely in line with what Blatty would have done himself.

That, too, is a claim I never made. I said that it had some lovely moments of Blattian tone and dialogue - e.g., the young priest chiding Merrin for his arrogance in condemning people for a faith Merrin himself once held - very much in line with the Exorcist novel's theme of the sin of pride being Merrin's chief bane. Also there's a line from the concentration camp victim (Bellar), "Sometimes I think that the best view of God is from Hell" - a subtle, complex, paradoxical and completely Blattian sentiment.
