Can anyone explain to me why Dwayne was smiling when his parents were fighting in the motel room next door? Is it just to show that he gets off on people being miserable? That part always makes me cringe when he's smiling so creepy.
But I still love the movie :)

Some people get so stressed out and nervous that they have the opposite of what is considered an appropriate reaction. Its happened to me before. The pressure and stress gets to be too much so instead of crying or getting angry you get hysterical and lose it and start to laugh life like a maniac. That's my idea of why he did that.

In that scene Dylan's mother said to his dad *beep* the nine step Richard !", she's sick about the idea and Dylan feel the same about it, and she mentioned it explicitly in the fight, that's why he's smiling in that scene *sorry for bad english
