How?
I thought this wasn't a bad movie so I'm not bashing this or anything but where was he getting all the money to do all this traveling?

shareWell, if he have money to go on Honeymoon, I guess he could afford the traveling. Plus, I believe his father helped out at first and <spoiler ahead> towards the end, he already find his own means of income as a writer.<spoiler ends>
shareYes, if I recall correctly, his dad told him he would wire him money to help him on his journey.
Right. Well, I have to-- I have to go now, Duane, because I, I'm due back on the planet Earth.
Okay, I though his father wired him the money when he got robbed but that seemed that was one of the last times he talked to him because his family saw him in the newspaper and seemed like they had no idea he was working on that road. Second I wasn't aware he was making money on the journal he was writing. I like to travel and believe me it would cost a lot of money to do all the traveling he was doing.
share-Actually...traveling in South & Central America...especially if you're getting by on the bear minimums is quite cheap for an american.
The couple financing the crossover though...used their life savings which makes sense.
The point of the movie might be missed of you are sweating the monetary value of the trip. All of these points make sense but point of worrying about how much it all costs? come on? really? Should we see people peeing in movies all the time too?
shareGood point. If they had been constantly mentioning money throughout the movie, I would've found that very annoying & irrelevant.
All the same, backpacking & living in cheap lodging is much more inexpensive than most people think. I made it across Canada from Halifax to Vancouver for about $500 (the railpass cost $350 of it). I imagine in Central/South America you can do wonders with that amount--as long as you don't insist on 4-star Marriott hotels.
I highly recommend Rick Steve's travel tip videos (you can probably find some on YouTube). They show you how anyone, even a lowly unemployed student, can afford to travel across a continent in relative comfort.
Or maybe he just helped beating an important world record and Red Bull paid them for getting a tattoo of Red Bull's logo on the chest... (not mentioned in the movie for romantic reasons...)
shareI also though about the costing issue but the movie is still quite entertaining and inspiring. Now I am going to travel to Norway to watch the midnight sun. Ofcourse, I will run out of money after that and have to return home and do the same routine job.
