It definitely took away from the feeling of a lighthearted superhero ("Ha. Drunken superhero. Classic.") and more toward the reality of what someone with super powers would have to deal with, in a land of mortals.

No, just stupid; just as stupid as when dorks imagine that this would be the case with Superman too. Why would he have "explosive orgasms" that could kill someone (and blast through the roof of his trailer) while his other bodily functions are not ramped up to a similar degree? In order to be consistent with that stupid idea, his heartbeat would sound like thunder, his blood circulation would sound like Niagara Falls, his breathing would cause hurricane-like winds, blinking would sound like a loud clap and produce gusts of wind, urinating would cut through thick steel, let alone a toilet, like a water jet cutter, and so on.
