who were the THEY Mary spoke of

she said in something BC(do not remember the date) we were at our house and they came after me. you protected me and they stabbed you

in something AD they burnt down our house and you pulled me out of the fire. john said and 60 years ago?

she replied we were coming out of a new movie"john replied Frankenstein" and mary said they beat you so bad. they would not even let me ride in the ambulance with you. when i got to the hospital you did not remember me so i left.

this implies that there is some organization that has been after them for thousands of years trying to end them.

and the way the bad guy Red was speaking to him implied he knew exactly what hancock and mary are . with his speaking of" you have had a good run, its time to move on etc etc"

so i ask Who are They

reply

An interesting concept. Though I believe she's was only referring to the non-specific "they".

People naturally envy other people, at least for the most part. So the "they" were intended to be just people from the specified time that wanted to take them out.

As far as Red was concerned, he saw that Hancock could be injured which signaled that it might be possible to end him.

The movie is non-specific at when exactly Hancock started being a superhero post Frankenstein. But presumably it has been for a while, which would add to Red's line of it "being the end of a long run".

Anyway, just my observation.

or, simply, hunted down just because they were "strange" or considered dangerous

I just watched it and this definitely fits. The way she says it (no stress on the "they") suggests she's just using it as a personal pronoun, meaning nothing more than "the people or person who attacked us".

"They" could have started out as generic human-kind in the original movie, but could form the basis of an antagonistic organization for the sequel.

I hate to be one of those people but it is sort of obvious who "they are. She is a Caucasian female with a black man enough said.

Interesting...

I thought "they" were Homo sapiens. Who could be fearful of Godlike creatures who don't age, cannot be injured, and are unbelievably strong.

I figured the "they" was the lead robber and whoever he recruited to kill Hancock and Mary. It sounded like he knew who Hancock and possibly Mary were, and that he'd been chasing them for a loooooooooong time.

Obviously not. If "they" referred to "some organization that has been after them for thousands of years trying to end them," then why would "they" send him to the hospital in an ambulance, instead of, you know, ending him?
