Science fiction fans

Science fiction fans are easily the worst out there. I prefer Adam Sandler fans.

When you see a movie about space with mentions of "Icarus" and themes of religion, why would you start expecting 100% scientific fact? Movies are made by artists, not scientists. This is not just with this movie, but in general.

Reading the boards of BSG, Lost, Gravity, etc. I almost feel bad for these people. Then I realize that they are the reason we rarely get quality TV in America. It either has to be perfect fact, or we have to destroy it. There is no license for story telling. We'd rather see Big Brother Season 454.

How about .0001%. If the sun were to die in the next 50 years, that would be it. Science Fiction is about the possible, this movie was impossible.

A movie shouldn't be held to your definition of science fiction. The writers did not intend to be scientifically accurate. The argument that the movie sucks shouldn't contain reference to "lack of scientific fact" when discussing its merits. It is just lazy analysis.

Do I really think nuking the sun would in anyway help? No. Do I think a melted madman is going to survive in space? No. Does it matter in regard to the story? Again, no.

No one held Melancholia to these standards simply because it was not set in space. Science fiction fans are simply the worst.

Sometimes you have to just enjoy the ride. I think people look for things to be critical about.

I would understand why the suspension of disbelief would be more difficult for someone who works for NASA or is educated in astrophysics. They probably shouldn't watch movies like this. That is why I can't watch medical dramas. My background as a nurse pretty much guarantees that my eyes will be rolled deeply into the back of my head the whole time.

Your analysis: They are the reason we rarely get quality TV in America...they would rather watch season 457 of Big Brother..." Is a bit of a non sequitur! In fact, sci-fi fans are probably the last people to watch something like big brother. Science-fiction does not need to be spot on scientifically accurate but making the major premise false is quite avoidable. We suspend disbelief for things like hearing sound in outer space because is not central to the plot. This movie could have been almost the same story if they could've found a reason that they need to travel to mercury instead of sending nukes and to the sun. Having said that, I don't hate the movie, I just think your viewpoint as as extreme as The viewpoints you are condemning.

That's a rather gross over simplification, telescone. And Adam Sandler fans? I don't know about his fans, but he's a talentless dork.
