How does it get a 7.3? 3.7 seems more in line with what I saw

This movie started out solid but degenerated into total crap over the last 30 mins.

Two other sci-fi's, Europa Project and The Host, where ranked significantly lower than this movie and in my opinion blew this movie away. If you liked the first part of this movie, Europa Project is available on demand right now and is very solid.

Thanks will give them a look. Last 30 minutes did not work for me...

So because the last 1/2 hour of a 'solid' movie wasn't good for you, you'd drop its rating all the way down to a 3.7 even though 75% of the rest of the film is good?

"Can you keep a secret? Can you know something and never speak of it again?"

reply

I was thinking the same thing. That's a huge drop in rating for thirty minutes.

reply

well that accounts for almost a third of a movie...and you know what I like my movies to be good ALL the way through!

the ending was dopey trying to be some deep religious philosophical thing AND a horror/slasher thing

reply

Of course that's reasonable.

If you had a lawyer and he represented you really well for the first 6 weeks of a 9 week trial and then completely screwed up the last 3 weeks, I'm pretty sure you'd give him low marks.

reply

I gave this a 4, mostly because I was expecting more. The mission was disjointed. It wasn't the last 30 minutes, it was the entire movie. This is a movie that required a lot of backstory and explanation, and there was too little. I should have read some reviews here, but too often they give away too much plot. Why exactly did they require a manned mission? Where did their gravity come from? Evidently they will be able to turn off gravity in 50 years. It seemed they stole some ideas from 2001 with the long skinny ship, and blowing themselves between airlocks.

It did lose a bit of steam at the end, but I still liked it. I also liked Europa Project.
I have not seen The Host.
