Everything about this movie is great except...
...the story, holy *beep*
Great cast -- Rose Bryne and Cillian Murphy are weirdly hot in their own ways, future Captain Hotsh*t Chris Evans is pretty decent, Michelle Yeoh, everyone is good.
John Murphy's fantastic score brings to mind Eno's ambient music, or the work of Soderbergh favorite Cliff Martinez.
Some really cool sets and production design; I particularly liked the gold spacesuit and whatever that cube place at the end was. The observation room shots were artful as well.
But the story itself, christ on a bike. Even after accepting the premise of reigniting the sun, there's so many other wild plot elements that I find distracting. The crispy crazy dude from the other ship was unnecessary and could have been excised completely, with no loss to the rest of the film. Either that or they should have leaned more into the weird spiritual angle, or maybe ruminate a bit more on Earth and humanity's relationship with the sun. It felt really half baked.
Still, one of Danny Boyle's more enjoyable out of his silly films.
