Why exactly does Pinbecker induce shakycam and blur?

It's not artistic, it's just annoying and immersion breaking.

Wrong. Danny Boyle wanted to show that Pinbacker was on a different plain, somewhere in the celluloid. That living in the dark for so many years means that he sucks up light - like a vacuum. Hence why he was introduced in the Observation Room, because he was 'absorbing light'. This is artistic of course, because it's supposed to show how depraved of humanity Pinbacker is, how the absence of human contact can destroy someone.

What bothered me was that he seemed to just appear out of thin air.

I don't remember any mention of him prior to his appearance. So at first I thought he was the Devil. Then I thought maybe I'd lost track of the II's crew members and this was one who they thought had died.

I also didn't see how he could've transferred from the II to the I.

The shakeycam etc contributed to my thought of him as the Devil.

I figured it out later, but resented having to do so.

Like the crew members did from II to I, not that difficult. He also destroyed the door after he entered Icarus II.
