Hell must have frozen over because this actually looks good...

...Did I just say that? I feel unclean. I just said (for the first time ever) that a DCCU movie looks good.

I'm a reasonable person and I have to give credit where it is due and it is actually due here--it looks like an MCU movie and actually looks like effort went into it. What happened here? Is this even a part of the DCCU or just some standalone picture. I'd prefer standalone--the most distance between this film and the DCCU the better.

See, THIS is what DC needs to do: standalone pictures that aren't tied into some greater cinematic universe like the old days. Yes, they mentioned Batman and Superman but it makes sense here because Shazam as a character is supposed to be almost a parody of Superman from what I've read about him.

I...like this. In fact, I like this so much that I might actually pay for it (something I haven't done for a DC movie since The Dark Knight).

Color me impressed.

If you ask me, WB needs to shitcan this DCCU garbage and just focus on solo movies. For ONCE I actually agree with their casting as well. Granted, I know next to nothing about Shazam but the actor seems genuinely funny and not cringe-worthy like that Ezra Miller.

Don't fuck this up, WB. And keep it the hell away from the DCCU. Let it be its own thing. And leave the director alone. Allow him to do his own thing.

DCEU trailers tend to look good. Suicide Squad trailers looked awesome and the movie blew. The same goes with MoS and BvS.

reply

I never liked any of those trailers, to be honest. This is the first one I like.

It’s not going to be known as the “DCEU” anymore. With this new and much needed change in direction they’re headed in, from now on the DC movie universe will officially be known as “Worlds of DC.” Lol, clearly attempting to distance themselves from the Snyder era as much as possible. And in all seriousness, good for them! But, does that mean DC movies are going to improve? I guess we’ll have to wait and find out for ourselves.

While I wasn’t amazed by it, the trailer for Shazam looks solid enough. Aquaman? I thought it looked so-so at first but after watching it a few more times, I find it... meh. As epic as it’s supposed to be, the trailer did not generate that much more interest in the movie for me. It could be a good movie, maybe.

All in all, Shazam hardly looks like a groundbreaking CBM — but for DC, it undoubtedly is a fresh breathe of air. Good, average, bad... however it turns out, at least it looks like DC will finally inject some life into their movies. Then again, they built up Suicide Squad as a joyful, fairly colorful and exciting movie... we all know how that turned out. Shazam, though, definitely appears like it is guaranteed to be different. And dare I say... fun? We’ll see.

LOL! Of course Aquaman doesn't look that good--anything still associated withe Snyderverse is going too look like absolutely shit. Plus, Aquaman just looks like shit anyway. He looks like a neanderthal who was hired into a movie role.

reply

Sorry, I'll go see it but....no. The costume looks as bad as I feared (no fault on the production, but some costumes just look bad on real people) and the "comedy"? bleccchh. Plus they're still relying heavily on the horrible Johns revamp of the origin.

Didn't see Black Adam, but I am so holding out for him.

reply

I never cared much for the character, and the trailer doesn't change that. But it does look radically different from what DC has been putting out so that has to be a good thing. Though I am less excited about Black Adam if he is going to be played with the same goofball humor, since Shazam and Black Adam are linked.

i think this is why they dont bother with Snyder anymore , his movies are so fucking depressing and dull, DCEU stans all think that depressive and dull is some sort of art form and consider MOS and BVS masterpieces. You can tell DCEU is going in a direction similar to Marvel, just watch all the DCEU fans that taunted Marvel fans for being kiddie and full of jokes embrace the very thing in Shazam. Bunch of fucking bastment dweeling a holes, cant stand DCEU fans

reply

Yeah, I know what you mean. Funny thing is--I don't think I'm even opposed to darker DC material. I mean--it's worked for them in the past. But Snyder came along and gave us some of the most lifeless and depressing material. His movies actually look and feel like death. There is so much gray in the screen filtering. So much white. His scenes look sterile and lifeless--as if they were shot in Purgatory. You actually feel your soul being sucked from your body while watching them.

While I'm not resigned to thinking Shazam will be a great movie, I can at least say that, for once, (in my eyes, at least) there is a DC movie the looks promising. We'll see what the final product produces.

I keep thinking about Burton Batman 89 more and more. That movie was PERFECT for Batman. Dark, gothic, black comedy and felt like a comic book but not in a pretentious and too cheesy of a way. I miss that style from DC. Why is that so hard to accomplish anymore?

reply

Agreed, there dark , but when the movie is boring , it becomes lifeless as you say , hell , one of my favourite films ever is Brandon Lees The Crow and thats a dark film , but it has soul, love the characters, hate the bad guys and thats why i love it, feeling, BVS and MOS however, have no feeling for those films one bit, might as well be directed by Michael Bay and dont even start me off on Justice League, i cant get past the first 15 mins, utter garbage

reply

Well, I'm glad I never watched Justice League. After BVS, I had enough. Schindler's List is less depressing than BVS. That's what the DCCU zealots don't seem to understand: BVS is depressing and dark in a bleak and lifeless kind of way. I mean--Schindler's List may be a dark and depressing film but it has a soul.
