West Texas?

So are they actually going to film any of this in West Texas or just stick to the Austin area? Where is it actually supposed to be based in the movie since Austin really isn't West Texas? I grew up in West Texas, so this title caught my eye.

I just moved to West Texas and it's funny you said this. My husband who has been here his whole life said that most movies that are set here are never filmed here (With the exception of Friday Night Lights which used the actual stadium). He said they tend to use some desert in California someplace because it looks like West Texas.

I'll be curious to see this movie since I live here now (Would like to see how they portray the area)

I know it's a little off subject, but I don't think any of the Friday Night Lights movie was filmed in Odessa. I know it says they used clips from real life games, which none of the players would have recieved money for because this would render them ineligible under UIL regulations, but I don't think any of the actual movie scenes were filmed there. I live only 2 hours away and I'm sure there would have been a mad dash from my home town to be an extra.

Actually good bits of it were filmed in Odessa. I think most if not all of the actual games were filmed in Ratliff Stadium which is in Odessa. I am from Odessa and was an extra in the movie.

They did a lot of filming in the halls of Permian High School. I know because I was a junior at the time. That really is wonderful Odessa.

No...the filming is in New Mexico. I saw Anna Sophia Robb here last night.

This movie was shot in New Mexico........So how many people actually believe that west texas looks anything like new mexico? I just think its funny. I live in west texas by the way.

West Texas and Eastern New Mexico are similar in terrain, but you'd think a a film with "West Texas" in the title would be shot here. I've lived in Lubbock, Texas most of my life and the only movie I can remember being shot around here was "Leap of Faith" with Steve Martin. Most of the filming was done in Plainview, about 45 miles north of Lubbock. Oddly enough, I think the movie is supposed to take place in Kansas or something.
Of course, "The Last Picture Show" was shot in Archer City and Olney, Texas, but those are a little too far east to be considered West Texas, even though I heard Jeff Bridges describe them as such in an interview.

Your favorite movie sucks.

I'm glad guys like Richard Linklater, Robert Rodriguez, Mike Judge and Wes Anderson shoot movies in Texas that actually portray things the way they really are, just like other parts of the country! Mind you, these guys make most of their movies in Dallas and Austin, etc. I;m glad there are filmmakers who are loyal to the Lone Star State and portray it in the right way.

Your favorite movie sucks.

You don't carry guns? We certainly all carry them here in New Mexico!

On a side note, I know the location manager, who also lives here in Santa Fe. The film was definitely shot in New Mexico because of the tax-free status the productions companies get when they shoot here and use local labor.

It's one big way our Governor, (D)Bill Ricardson, is trying to get cozy with Hollywood. He's running for President, but doesn't realistically have a chance of getting the nomination; more likely he's shopping for a VP nod.
