Set in the 90s?

One of the goofs for this movie says it was set in the 90s before the Nintendo DS was released. There's also several references to Coke Zero which came out in 2005.

They also play a type of Dance Dance Revolution game which also came out around the early 2000's...

I've seen this movie like 20 times and I've never gotten a 'set in the 90s' vibe.

The PC Scott uses to buy on Amaon had one of those huge CRT screens from back then

it's definitely early-mid 00s but with a lot of 90s nostalgia because that's when the characters grew up
