3 parts that REALLY get to me

3 parts of the movie that ALWAYS bring chills:

1) "Welcome to the Eagles"
2) Football in the rain sequence
3) Climax of the final special teams play in which Papale interrupts the punt to the end titles

Throw in some great music during these scenes... and it's near perfect.

My favorite parts are:

1) When he sits with his dad the night before the final cut and the dad says to him something about 'just because I told you not to get your hopes up, doesn't mean I didn't'.

2) When he 'tells' Tommy he made the team by having him come and give him a jump.

3) The scene where Vermiel's wife comes with the kids and she talks about 'the true test of character is when you're up against it'.

4) Football in the rain sequence (what a beautiful scene, although I would have opted out the ADR).

The part that gets me teary eyed is when Vince scores a touchdown at the end and his dad is in the bar watching and one of Vince's friends goes "Thats your boy out there" Great movie!

couldnt he get his dad tickets

reply

i know...seriously thoug...why did his dad have to watch from the bar?

reply

maybe his dad didn't want to go. Alot of people don't like to go to live games, especially older folks.

2) When he 'tells' Tommy he made the team by having him come and give him a jump.

To me, this is the one scene that really gets me, too. The actor who plays Tommy does a great job of selling it like any friend would do.

Also, the whole game vs Giants is great, especially when he is running for the TD and all the fans, even his GF, are yelling for him.

When Vince rips up the note! Awesome!

Everything - every part of this movie!! I saw it in canada when i was visiting family out there and my friend and i came out just totally stunned. Coming from the UK we dont have much american football over here, so when my cousin suggested we see it, we thought it would be rubbish. How wrong we were, with tears in our eyes (myself and my male friend who i didnt think could cry) and hope in our hearts (yes, cheesy i know) we sat stunned not believing that this man did what he did, and when he rips up that note, when he gets the touch down, when he gets the girl, when his friends realise he still loves them, and especially when he gets into the team, it touched me, and i fail to see how it couldnt touch everyone else, this film is beautiful!

My favorite part.

The two players who gave him the most grief during training camp were the first ones to congratulate him after his famous play. Seeing their faces as they ran up to hug him. That happens in real football.

I wasn't going to watch this movie but Mark Wahlberg was in it and I wanted to see the first five minutes, that's all. But I ended up having to move a meeting with my client to 4:00 pm (leaving in a minute) so that I could watch the ending, heh heh. Formulaic? Maybe... but Greg Kinnear and Mark Wahberg were good in it... actually I also thought the entire 'ensemble??' ... the Philly guys and the Team... were good, very well directed. For ME, they could have left out the 'semi-sex' scene but that is just 'hollywood' huh.

Tearing up the note... perfect!!!!! In fact, that scene sparked something I'm going to tell the client today and then use on Tuesday for a team rah-rah meeting... you can have it here 'for free'.... write down all the negatives that you think you have in your life... read it out loud. Set it aside, and now write down all the positives... VIDEO yourself tearing up the negative list.
I think I will youtube that when I get home tonight after my client meeting.

Also, please remember that there are a lot of people out there who will go out of their way to RAIN on YOUR parade... you must NEVER give up based on SOMEONE'S opinion... it's YOUR LIFE and as my catchphrase states below YOUR JOURNEY.

I don't know if the part where he has the guy come out to jump start his car was fictional or maybe based on reality... but in any case it was also 'perfect'.

I gave this movie a '10' because I got a business idea from it and because I never watch sports movies... maybe I will now... I wonder if Rudy is on netflix.....

Life is a journey not a destination. Fear nothing.

Just watched again whether its fiction or not its a great movie, I hate the special effects movie, I fall asleep.
Movies that choke me up are much more real

Scene that gets me is as he's driving around just before "The Rain Game" and catches sight of the little kid running out of the playground and into the street to get the football.
Kid is wearing a "homemade" jersey with Vince's #83 on the back in white tape. -- That's so cool !!

Also like: right before the first regular season game - the bathroom scene --
* sounds of heaving *
Vince comes out of the stall - followed closely by Coach Vermeil.
[Vince] Must have been something I ate.
[Coach] Yeah, . . . Room Service !

Plus as one previous poster mentioned the "character" scene between Vermeil and his wife . . . . . . . . actually any scene with Paige Turco in it. :)

Beer? Isn't that the amber-colored, carbonated liquid? I've heard good things about it. Norm

scene with his dad on the stairs.
the rain game was cool.
the dallas and giants games were sone very well.
it was cool when those big guys came up to him after the (sort of) td.

i like it when vermeil got mad at him after he hesitated against dallas.
like it when he goes to se the girl to tell her how he feels.
like when lemaster leaps at him (huge, fast) and tells him about his knuckles.
"I'm sick of seeing you get killed."
love the shots of the real papale (actually more exitable and charismatic than movie star walberg) and the final shot of pure joy of the real papale, i think that's my favorite bit of all.

good flick.

I have ALWAYS loved the scene that features the first round of cuts - the coach walking down the hallway, knocking on doors and saying, "Coach wants to see you - bring your playbook." Love how Vince is packed and ready to leave, only to watch the shawdow of the coach's feet go past his door.

I also love the opening scenes of the movie - the beginning credits with "I Got A Name" over it.

Here's the real deal - I know Vince. He was my typing teacher in 1971-72 at Interboro High School. There is something about that opening sequence that really captures my youth in Delaware County, PA - it's hard to describe.

I really love this movie - even though parts are true and parts are fictionalized - it's a wonderful story that is simply and beautifully portrayed. And, it doesn't take the easy way out by having the movie end when Vince makes the team. I love that the struggle of fitting in - of really embracing his role - is part of the plot. That's a nice and fitting part of the story.

I love it when he gets out on the field for his first game. It made me think of how I'D feel to run onto a field to play. Awesome.

Blood never lies.
