But he played professional ball!

All the drama in this film is supposedly based on the fact that he only played street ball and nothing else. But he had played professional football already. So it was a secondary league, the WFL. The league had many NFL stars in it who had defected. He played two years there. This film is based on a huge lie of ommission. I dont usually like sports films, but found this to be decent. However its all a fraud to me.

Not to mention he was a like a track star in college. He went there on a track scholarship. He probably would have played ball, but they didn't have team.

St. Joseph's doesn't have a football team and likely never will. Basketball is pretty much everything there. They spent $1.2M on an astroturf soccer field when I was there, and there was all kinds of consternation among the students about how the school could afford that but nearly double tuition in four years. They would bus people to Auburn to watch football games there; I think it's a sister college or something.

This is why, as with most biographic films, the disclaimer is "Based" on a true story. Very rarely is a biogrphy filmed to the letter and if it were, it would have a hard time connecting to a national audience!

thats why you take these movies for what they are worth. Not from South Philly, played pro ball. these things take away from the story. But I hate finding out afterwards about it.

I just watched the film
I enjoyed Elizabeth Banks as Janet
I did enjoy the movie
I am glad that Vince and Janet are still married 30 years later

But, the fact that Vince played 2 years for the WFL team and that he was a track star in college does help explain how he made the Eagles team

I think that that someone should have mentioned this during the film
A simple : HEY VINCE, THIS AINT THE WFL OK

would have been sufficent

to not mention this hurts the validity of the film

What also hurts is the dramatic license at the very end as well

If you look at another post on this forum it states that he did not meet his wife Janet till years later. So they mislead you into believing that she was his future wife.

reply

When he goes out to dinner with the new girl, he says

"i played ball when I was a kid...nothing big though"

so they do kind of erase the WFL from the story line

theres more than a couple things that r wrong in this movie...he was a nobody

I AM IRON MAN!

I would not want to admit having anything to do with the WFL either.
I'm afraid mentioning the WFL would have taken away credibility. However, it does set me straight on how he was such a good athlete. They almost had be trying out for the Aints (Saints).. Saved me a good beating.. LOL.

I just ignore the fact and think of this as a fiction film. There many good sports films that are made up. Cant let stuff like this bother you.

"Invincible" is probably still more accurate than "Rudy".
