Why did the other players hate Papale?

I thought that was obvious ?, he was a rookie first of and all rookies get *beep* from the guys who have been there first, that is the same in jobs to, untill you prove yourself most will either rip on you, or not talk to you.

And the other thing is they dont think he should be there, because hes a 30yr old man who got picked in what is seen as a media stunt to bring the team back into the limelight, and maybe pick up a lot of fans willying to watch what is seen as a normal guy make it in the team, it could have been any of them to, so the regular players dont think hes been picked for his skills, but to bring in fans and the media, and hence they dont like him, believing him to be a poor player

All of that, plus the fact that Vermeil made it clear: the nobodies would have an equal chance as the 'somebodies'. This made how balls-out Papale was playing during camp more threatening to the name players.

I agree with what has been posted so far.

The other reason for them to not like him was that if he made the team he would be taking money off another professional.

The players did not seem to be dong their best for the team either. I imagine that once you start 'treading water' then it can be very hard to push again.
