A movie you accept or you don't

This movie seems to be quite polarizing, and I don't think its like some people say that haters don't "get it" I think its more a matter of haters don't accept it.

They don't accept that its just a fun artistic film that isn't trying to be as good as the Beatles. They don't accept that the maker isn't trying to reinvent the wheel, but just put her heart into a project she cared about and hoped people would enjoy. Or they don't accept that anyone else can sing a Beatles song. Haters seem to unfairly judge the film and its creators as pretentious.

Its hommage people, not a ripoff or cash grab. They clearly cared about what they were doing, and made it respectfully and tastefully.

This movie is just great!

To be fair, the material used in this film is sacred to many. That being said, I thought they did a pretty good job of creating a story from the music.

I didn't hate this movie, but everytime I heard one of the covers, I just wanted to hear the real song.
I'm not a fan of musicals, so I didn't like the lack of development in the characters, and the over obvious dialog. I did however like Jim, and thought that he at least made the movie watchable.
The bowling Alley scene was really the only one I liked, (song too).

I enjoyed parts of it. The covers and the visuals were loads of fun, but the actual story and characters and all the rest was poor. In that sense it was not a good film. IMO it's a poor film with some good moments/scenes that are better watched separately on youtube than as part of a 2 hour movie.

Finally! somebody with a clear head about this movie!

You're either a Beatles fan or an Across the Universe fan.. choose your side

Both. How about that?

^that's fair and all... but my guess would be that you became a Beatles fan after seeing ATU. I feel the rawness of the beatles playing and singing was cheapened with the loud autotuned voices, over quiet music. But, hey, a Beatles fan is a beatles fan. I think the error was made having a woman direct it..the beatles weren't women and she took so much out of context to reperesent her modern day political beliefs. And there is no way they would have done, "run for your life" lol

Not so much a woman as such, just the vastly overrated Julie Taymor, purveyor of flash over substance.

How about a Beatles fan who enjoyed and appreciated Across the Universe?

Of course you can both be a Beatles fan and a fan of this movie. As for covers of the songs I appreciate the covers especially after hearing Beatles songs sung by people who don't speak English. It seems like no matter what country you are in, if a Beatles song comes on the people know the words. They may not be 100% correct and the accent "strange" but the song and feelings are the same.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

wrong, there is fun yes, it is artistic yes but there is the really SERIOUS side of the genocide by America of the innocent people of Vietnam.

she uses The Beatles because they WERE passionate about that issue
