Kelvin Gastelum gets 6-month suspension from New York commission
Gastelum is getting the suspension for skipping the weigh-ins. Wouldn't mind if they began handing out suspensions for missing weight altogether.

shareHe seriously needs to consider moving up to 185 permanently.

Well lets see, Dana claims he is never going back to 170. Gastelum claims 185 fight is a one time thing before he goes back to 170. Here is hoping that Dana and company put their foot down and tell him there is no way he is going to 170 again.
shareThiago Alvez hit with three month suspension. NYAC not playing around with fighters missing weight.
shareYeah what's up with that. Usually it's a 20% of the purse fine.
I like it though. The UFC seems to try some new things to ensure proper (using the term proper loosely).
I didn't even know Alves was on the card until now. Alves has struggled to make 170 his entire UFC career, similar to Gastelum.
My question is, WTF was UFC thinking having him fight at 155?!?! I mean, seriously, I would've bet on Alves missing weight there.

So why is Kelvin scared of the 185ers?
If that is his natural weight he should go with it, he clearly struggles to make 170.
I think Gastemlum feels he's too small for the division. He's short 5'9, short reach for the division at 71in. And he's not coming in there with the pedigree of a Yoel or Jacre that backs him up. He's even admitted in the past that he's felt physically weaker than his opponents at 185lbs. I think he's better off at 170lbs but doesn't put in the work to make weight.
