So were gonna have 2 Interim FW Titles?

All we need now is another Interim title fight for Rumble and were back to the dark ages of the UFC

Aldo will be promoted to FW Champ, marking the second time he's become the UFC FW Champ before fighting for a UFC FW belt.

That'll be a fun trivia question in a few years.

It is 👍

reply

Yeah injuries, fighters wanting to pick and choose their fights, and UFC relying on two people for money.

I wish Conor would have defended the belt once so he could be a true double champ. But instead he was just a guy with 2 belts.

An UFC 206 is ugh, I was looking forward to Rumble beating up Cormier.

Conor McGregor’s run as a two-division UFC champ was fun while it lasted. And for those keeping track, it lasted exactly two weeks.

Then UFC commentators announced on Saturday night’s UFC Fight Night 101 broadcast that McGregor has “relinquished” his UFC featherweight title, a choice of words that lacked the full and unmistakable ring of truth.

Forget for the moment that McGregor (21-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC) typically isn’t the relinquishing type. Forget that, if he really had voluntarily decided to vacate one of the two titles he’s so proud of, the announcement might have come from him instead of from Jon Anik.

Instead, focus on the timing. It’s the timing that explains the why behind it all, and it’s the why that drives home the ridiculousness of the UFC’s decision.

Great article. I wonder how the UFC production team is going to spin Aldo's 13-second-KO-loss-magically-becomes-champ storyline...

this is an odd situation...

On one hand I hate the fact that because the UFC made a insanely shallow card, they had to the Strip Mcgregor to try and save face and save the card...I think its incredibly disrespectful to Conor.

Oh the other hand, In a way I dont really have a problem with Conor being stripped, because If the truth was known, Conor is not going to defend The FW belt for at least another year....Conor is out until at least May for the birth of his child, and You can LITERALLY guarantee his first fight back will be against DIAZ to complete the trilogy, Its by far the biggest fight the UFC and Conor can make, and Its 100% the direction they will go...so we've got to assume Diaz/Mcgregor III will take place in July over International Fight in Vegas...

So that means Conor's next fight wouldn't take place until November or December...and coincidentally, The UFC is going back to NY in November of next year...so that is almost a certainty the UFC and Conor would want that date for his next fight..

So at best, if Conor kept The FW belt, he wouldn't defend until November of 2017(His first fight back would be at LW against Diaz, Then his next fight could be at FW in NY in November)and if that is how it played out, If Conor did not defend the FW belt until November of 2017, that would be almost 23 months since he won it...So given that, It makes sense to strip him or for him to vacate the belt...23 months is simply ridiculous ...

So I have no problem with the UFC demanding Conor give up the belt or stripping him given they know he wont defend it until November of 2017, I just dont like the way they did it, The UFC intentionally makes A weak and shallow card because they didn't want to deal with GSP, then when Their main event falls through, They decide their only option is to create A fake belt so Their "Co Main Event" can now be A "Main Event", and the only way to do that is to Strip Mcgregor and Promote Aldo to Champ so His "Interim belt" can be The belt Pettis and Halloway fight for...just absurd.

this also is disastrous for ALDO...Mcgregor will now be relentless With his hate and mental warfare toward Aldo, Aldo Didn't need to become the new champ like this, he's going to get brutal made fun of and ridiculed...

Aldo needed Conor to just give up the belt, make a statement saying "He doesn't want to hold up the division any longer, he's not going to be fighting at FW any time soon"...

But now Conor's going to be angry(and rightfully so) and Conor will trash Aldo "The Undisputed Champ"

there is one scenario in which I would be completely against stripping Conor of the belt...

once this whole thing started going down, I'm sure someone in the UFC called Conor or his team to tell him what was going down...

and I could easily see Conor saying "No, I'll fight at FW next, Dont strip me, I'll fight my next fight at FW"

I could then see the UFC saying "NO May is too long"

I could then see Conor saying "FVck May, If your going to strip me, I'll fight before May, Strip Aldo instead, strip Aldo of his Interim Title, Let Pettis and Hallowy fight for that, and I'll immediately fight The winner to unify The FW title"

If something like this ^ convo took place, then its A Bullsh!t move by The UFC....

If Conor offered to fight at FW immediately to avoid getting stripped, then The UFC is WRONG here and was JUST LOOKING for an excuse to strip Conor.

Conor said after 205, "all I know, I got Both Belts now, somebody's got to come talk to me now"

The UFC may be doing this, may have been looking for a excuse to Strip Conor so they could take some power and control away from him...

its just a bad situation..

The right move was for Conor to give up the FW belt since he wont be defending it until at least NOVEMBER...

but This was the wrong way to do it, Conor needed to give up the belt willingly, for His,The UFC and Aldo's sake...

now its A mess, Now You got Conor mad, The UFC looking terrible and Aldos going to be ripped to shreds.

I like Diaz but I would hate for another Conor vs Diaz match especially for the 1st defense. We all know Khabib has earned the shot and has a great streak, lets say Diaz fights again before the 3rd fight and loses, they can't justify giving him a title shot.

reply

The UFC won't give Nate a title shot anyway because he's not a company man. Conor pledged his allegiance to Dana a couple years back, and since Conor fulfills his end of the bargain by bringing in the money, Dana and the UFC continue to bend to his will by giving him opportunities they don't give to others even if they achieve similar success. There's no way Nate or any other 155er would get a shot at the LW title after only a one-fight win streak. Cerrone had to win eight to get his shot. RDA had to win three. Khabib had won seven, and instead of getting his shot, Conor hops in front and Khabib gets Johnson. The Conor favoritism is through the roof because of money. Now it's time to wait and see what excuses they come up with to have Conor avoid fighting Khabib.

If you can read this then you are trying too hard.

The excuse is pretty simply...

Both Fights With Diaz did 1.6 Million + on PPV...

The Diaz rematch garnered The Most Mainstream Media in any UFC fight in History...

I truly couldn't believe all The Major Stations that were reporting on that fight after it was over...

The Excuse is, Diaz/Mcgregor III for the LW belt is the biggest fight in UFC history...

It will do 500 Thousand + PPV buys more than Conor Vs Khabib, Conor Vs Tony or Conor Vs Anyone else...

any Conor PPV is going to do over 1 Million now...But Diaz/Conor III is Literally guaranteed to do 1.5 - 2 Million...

Khabib and Tony will fight sometime in the next 6 months...IMO Khabib will win and cement himself as the #1 Contender, everybody Will agree he's the number 1 contender, people will get excited and expect A Khabib Vs Conor match...and then somewhere out of the blue shortly after Conor has his baby, The UFC will announce Conor/Diaz III for July during International fight week..

People will B!tch, say its not fair, then it will be forgotten and Diaz/Conor III Will set records and be the biggest fight in UFC history..

and yes I do agree The UFC will make the fight in an attempt to keep Khahbib away from Conor...

I think Both UFC and even Conor's Team will push for any fight but Khabib...Everyone BUT CONOR knows Khahbib is an awful matchup...

at this point if you dont get that Conor truly thinks he can beat anyone then you have a problem...Conor doesn't look at Khahbib or anyone and think "Thats a bad match up"...I truly believe he believes he'll fight anyone and beat anyone...

I dont think Conor has any interest in the Khabib fight and Its not because He's scared, Its simply because He knows Khabib isn't the biggest fight...If he fought Khabib next He would lose money, Fighting Khahbib instead of Diaz could be the difference of 5-10 Million For Conor..

I know if Conor does fight Nate or anyone besides Khahbib next, people will immediately start saying he's hiding from Khahbib or scared...But In Conor's case Specifically I dont think thats even remotely the case, thats probably the case with The UFC and Conors team, but based on Conor's history, I'm fully convinced He truly believes He can beat anyone and will fight anyone...I fully expect Conor NOT to fight Khabib next, I think It will be 100% his decision NOT to Fight Khabib, But IMO it has zero to do with him being scared or ducking him, I just think For Conor, the way he'll look at it is Khabib is a horrible business decision, He's got a for sure 15-25 Million dollar fight sitting there with Nate against A 10-15 Million dollar fight against Khabib...

Also you need to get over this "The UFC favors him and gives him opportunities that no other fighters get"

Its just natural given the money Conor brings in, He gets treated differently and he should.

But Make no mistake, He wouldn't be getting these opportunities if he didn't continue to time after time prove he was worthy of these opportunities ...

Had Conor not Been a truly great fighter, beat truly great opponents, He wouldn't be getting these opportunities one after another...He would have ONLY gotten one, His Title sot against Chad, had he lost, had he Proved not able to beat Elite fighters, He wouldn't be getting Special treatment, he would have been exposed as "All talk"...But Instead Conor Proved he was worthy of getting a fast tracked title shot, proved he was worthy of cutting the line at LW, He proved it by Succeeding In The opportunities that were given to him, and by Succeeding in Those opportunities it resulted in him getting more opportunities ...

I think thats the thing that probably bothers you most...

Its not the fact that UFC keeps giving him opportunities, Its the fact that Conor keeps succeeding in these opportunities and Proving himself worthy of The opportunities , He keeps winning and succeeding which then result in him getting even more opportunities ...

you can play The "he get opportunities" card all you want...But deep down you know, Conor wouldn't get these opportunities unless He continues to succeed in them..

The UFC could NOT give Conor the kind of favorable treatment they give him if he embarrassed them and lost in these opportunities ......

had Conor lost to Mendez, They could not have gave Conor the Aldo fight...

Had Conor lost to Aldo and never became champ, They could not justify giving him a LW shot..

Conor earned these opportunities by continuing to succeed and Prove he was worthy of whatever favorable treatment the UFC gave him

Daaaaaaaammmmmn! Mic drop?
I know its was hard for you to say all that since your "mantra" when we used to get into it was "Good for business".

"Hi, excuse me. Can you use your karate to open up this pickle jar?"

reply

I was never a fan of business over sport. I didn't agree with the James Toney/Couture and Royce/Hughes fights.

If you can read this then you are trying too hard.

reply

I personally didn't mind Toney vs Couture. Two over the hill guys wanting to represent their respective sport in a fight that meant nothing beyond pride (and a lot of money)!

reply

So, as expected, Conor is stripped and Aldo is the champ again.
