UFC Fatigue

I've been buying less and less UFC fights in the past two years. My brother, who got me into watching MMA didn't even come to the last one I bought.

Anyone else have UFC Fatigue? I'm just sick of the favoritism, hypocritical statements, and showiness of it all now. It doesn't feel like a sport anymore. I think most of it at least on my end comes from Conor Mcgregor type issues. What I mean by that is they pick one or two people and just promote the crap out of them and leave others to promote themselves. I am so sick of hearing about Conor and Sage and Ronda and how much they shove them down everyone's throats. I bought, I think, two fights this year and I regretted buying them both afterwards.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I've been a fan for like 10 years and I'm really losing interest. There were enough "stars" before that everyone could have a favorite. Now they promote a handful of people who take up the oxygen from other fighters and you either love these 4 stars or hate them. It's turning into Boxing, where you have 3 super famous fighters and no one knows the rest.

reply

I have had it since Sonnen vs Anderson 2. That was probably the last fight I was really juiced about, and the 1st one was the last one I spent money on.

Pretty much Anderson Silva's decline is what made me lose interest and I didn't even consider my self a huge fanboy of his. He was so entertaining to watch though, love him or hate him. GSP leaving too I suppose just because he was one of the guys I around when I first started watching. Jon Jones drug issues and suspensions have also been the latest for my disinterest, he was my favorite fighter and it has been sad to see him become a screw up.

I preferred when UFC also had less shows, that meant more stacked cards. Now they have 1-2 shows every week and it can get over saturated hard to remember every fighter or care. The TUF show has declined a lot since Mir vs Nog season, that was the last fun season they had. Now they are trying hard to find gimmicks and tweaking it. I honeslty don't think the winner will be a challenge to Mighty Mouse.

I am not too bothered by the stars since I don't follow like I use to. But Connor being given title shots and deciding who to fight bothers me. He should fight based off rankings, Khabib has earned the shot. Instead it will be based off big money and Khabib is probably not well known.

reply

Yep you're the only, I can't get enough of the UFC it's getting better, all your criticisms are just white noise on a mute setting to me - but I do feel the women's division does soften, ruin and dilute the sport of UFC (women just can't fight that's the truth) if you're not Rousey then piss off.

reply

Sound a bit delusional...

reply

Nope, I sound a bit truthful.

reply

I'm disappointed with the ranking system. Totally behind it...totally for it...then you see they don't follow it.

So that is just getting old. The RR and Conor machine is also annoying.

WMMA has had some pretty good fights lately minus anything Cyborg is in. She's overhyped for a fighter with no division and who fights...sorry...but cans or undersized opponents. The facthing that the ONLY woman fighter you care about is RR tells me enough.

reply

RR, Claudia, Andrade, Pennington are the only female fighters worth a crap, the rest are mind numbingly weak and ill.

reply

Thug Rose, Joanne, Cyborg...?

reply

Yes those as well, but lets not pretend that they're aren't some pretty weak vitamin deficient weakling females in that pack.

reply

Hes obviously trolling you.

Trolling???? do you have any idea how boring it is to watch skinny girls slap each other stupid in an octagon where their arms are too week to commit to an armbar oh yes I do troll but this time I'm as serious as a heart attack.

reply

couldn't disagree more...

I agree There are some Weak WMMA fighters and When They fight and the fights are boring they look ALOT Worse than Men's Boring Fights

But there are some Amazing Women's MMA fighters, and I can't believe You only believe The 4 you listed are the ONLY WMMA fighters worth a damn...

I can think Of A Dozen at least that are Amazing and have Great skills that are fun to watch.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk-(Her striking Is just fantastic and extremely technical, Her Takedown defense is damn good, Her Pace is relentless , she constantly tries for the finish, she's by far my favorite Female fighter to watch right now)

Claudia Gadelha-(Just A Hair off from being A champ, She's absolutely Elite, she's so close to beating Joanna , if she can just Improve her Cardio to where she can last 3 or 4 rounds going Hard, she'll be able to beat Joanna the next time they fight in a decision)

Karolina Kowalkiewicz -(Damn good, Her Title fight with Joanna was very good, I'm not sure she'll ever beat a champ or be able to beat Joanna or Gadelha, but she's going to be a mainstay in The top 5)

Rose Namajunas-(not championship level right now and I'm not sure she'll ever be, But she's damn good and can beat everyone but The Elite of the Elite, she can beat any fighters ranked 10-3 but struggles when she's gets to the top 3...she's still improving and may eventually close that gap but IMO I dont think she'll be good enough to beat Joanna or Gadelha)

Jessica Andrade-(I really want to see her fight Joanna next, she's looked Fantastic since dropping from Bantamweight...)

Paige VanZant -(Never gonna be a champion or be able to beat The best of the best, But I like watching her fight, She's tough as they come and keeps a relentless pace, Her Fight with Rose was great, she got dominated but never gave up, she got caught in multiple Awful Submissions and just kept refusing to tap)

McKenzie Dern-(NOt in the UFC yet, but she will be and when she does she's going to be a star, Her BJJ is literally on another level, she's going to take girls down and submit them in ways they probably never even trained in)

Ronda Rousy-(Her Judo Throws and Technique on her throws are as Elite as it gets, Her Arm bar and Technique Is literally The best there is)

Cris Cyborg-(The best female fighter on earth, she's A monster, I dont like her, she almost certainly still doing steroids and cycling off, but She's a sight to see when she fights.

Miesha Tate- (My favorite Female fighter, her striking is awful, nothing about her stands out as being Great, but damn it she is just so tough, she's literally one of the toughest and most durable fighters(man or Woman) in the history of MMA, Her Grappling is pretty good and IMO she's beautiful...Her fight and finish in The Holm fight stands out as one of My favorite Moments in MMA, she was down on all score cards, there was under 2 minutes left in The 5th round and she got a hold Holly, took her back and choked her unconscious, It was just one of those defining moment,

If she didn't win and finish that fight right then and there , She Literally would have never gotten another chance,She Literally had 2 minutes to finish a fight she was losing, 2 minutes to become a champion, and If she didnt, that fight goes to decision, she loses 4-1 on all scores cards and she never gets another chance to be Champ, It would have been her 2nd title fight lose, she already lost twice to Rousey, It was one of the best "Do or Die" situations in MMA, It was A career changing moment, You either finish that fight and become a champion or YOU NEVER become a champion. it was AMAZING)

Cat Zingano -(IMO extremely under rated, I believe if she ever starts fighting again consistently she'll work her way back to a title shot and Win the title)

Julianna Pena-(IMO A future Champ, She relentless, has Good takedowns and Great Ground and Pound, If Rousey loses to Nunes, Pena Will beat Nunes next to become to the New Champ)

Holly Holm -(Boring, doesn't take chances, but her striking is Elite and her style is hard to deal With, If Ronda beats Nunes, somehow the UFC will find a way to Make Holm/Rousey II and I'll be very interested in that fight)

Amanda Nunes-(I'm not too big on Nunes, She's good, she's got power and pretty good striking, Her ground game is good but she has a cardio problem, I dont see her being champ too long)

I also somewhat enjoy watching these fighters fight-

Sara McMann
Valentina Shevchenko
Raquel Pennington
Liz Carmouche
Jessica Eye
Valerie Letourneau
Jessica Penne
Carla Esparza

IMO The UFC has done An Excellent job building these 2 women's divisions...I think Both Division are filled with Good fighters and now Fighters that MMA fans recognize and have grown to respect

I have highlighted in blue the women fighters I like (two of which I already mentioned as my favourites) but I couldn't disagree more about UFC's treatment of its womens division. Dana needs to axe some dull mostly female fighters, seriously!!!!!

So what you are saying is that you want all power brawls and have issues seeing skill and technique?

Reading this is like people complaining Cruz, GSP, Mighty Mouse and Maia are boring. Sorry that all fights can't be windmill KO's by roided up guys who can't wipe their asses because they juiced too hard and usually win because one guy just gasses before the other.

Man...the UFC plays right to this. Give us the money, give us the golden boys, give us only show. What will happen is, one day, the spectacle will outlive the usefulness and the UFC will try to search for legitimacy again. They tried it before with rankings and USADA drug testing. The only issue is that they won't find it and they will need to fold. The only way than can keep this up is to go back to the NHB days and tat won't happen.

Technique??? in what??? following each other around the octagon punching each other like a handicap???? prolonging which should be an easy KO fight for another 15 minutes?? I don't tune into UFC for women's rights because they HAVE!!!! to be in every sport that a man competes in so we can have ALL the boxes ticked which is the sole reason I dislike Dana - only the most elite, combatable women should participate not weaklings or because of what's between their legs.

Massive troll job. Good work but you need to watch strong man or rastlin. What makes the womans straw weight a premiere division is just that. Their lack of strength realy highlights the skill in MMA. Its hard enough to get a KO win but ots even harder to get a spinning backhand late in the match when thats the only way you can generate that much force for a win. If you cant see the relivance of the SW division or the WBW div then good ridance. More for me.

I'm just a massive MMA Fan...

and really never understood how anyone could get burnt out ...

But Yes I'm starting to get annoyed...I wouldn't say I have fatigue...

But I find myself looking at cards and saying "Really?"

thats the thing that bothers me most, I dont care about "favoritism" or "Unfair issues"

The thing that is really starting to annoy me is that absolute Awful UFC cards and Main Events they are putting on...

They are simply putting on WAY to Many events, and The Fight Night Cards are literally becoming Jokes, again I wouldn't call it fatigue, but I find myself looking at upcoming cards and Having absolutely no interest or excitement Due to how weak the cards are and how weak the Main events are...and sometimes I literally get angry, Like sometimes it goes beyond Just "Not being Interested or excited"...sometimes I look at an upcoming card and its so weak,so shallow, The Main Event is just "patched" together, that I literally get angry at what The UFC is giving us..

for the most part, Pay Per View are fine...I would say I'm happy and excited for 80% of them...but there are some that are just Absurdly weak and it makes me mad.

IMO that is by far the biggest problem facing the UFC...They are just putting on WAY to many shows, and because of it Fight Night card have maybe 2 good fights(sometimes not even 1 truly good fight)

I would love for the UFC to Cut The number of shows a year to 24-30...

12 Pay Per Views

6 UFC On Fox cards

and 6-12 Fight Night cards

IMO This ^ would change the UFC for the better...They could straight Stack Cards...each PPV could have 5 Great Fights, a total main card that is Stacked

Then The UFC on Fox cards could actually feel special, They could actually put on Title fights...

theres 10 Champions, each champion fight 2 to 3 times a year if they are not injured, that between 20 to 30 title fights a year..

You could put 2 title fights on damn near all 12 PPVs and then Headline all Fox cards with 1 title fight(probably the smaller weight class)

and the UFC Fight night cards could have 3 or 4 Great fights and True main events

I think the UFC is putting between 50-52 Cards a years...

Cutting it down to 24-30 would Literally Make The All Cards Twice as good as they are right...

we would get 2 cards a month...1 PPV and 1 Fight Night Card and then The next month would be 1 PPV and 1 Fox card...

IMO it would get people excited again...Instead of having a Card damn near every weekend that are extremely weak...

Fans Would get 2 Cards spread out over 2 to 3 weeks and would really get excited for them considering they would be stacked Cards With a minimum of 4 great fight and would almost always have a title fight headlining

I know now the UFC literally has to put on 50+ cards because They have close to 500 fighters under contract and The UFC's contractually obligated to give UFC fighters at least 3 fights a year if they are healthy

but new owners should look at it, realize its a problem and cut the roaster, cut to 200 or 300, or how ever many it takes to fill 24-30 cards a year.

Nah been watching mma since ufc1, watch loads of different promotions, can never be burnt out. Enjoy it too much

reply

The OP should stick with golf.

reply

Yup. It's why I never post here anymore. I'll watch big money cards and I'll track my favorite current fighters but the Conor show and prefabricated *beep* just makes me roll my eyes now.

And we're at a point where Robert Whittaker vs. Derek Brunson is the main event of a fight card now.

reply

Well we always needed small show cards. Thats why the UFC bought up the fractured small orgs with a good talent. It has been easier to manipulate the rankings with most of the well known talent on the roster.

"Hi, excuse me. Can you use your karate to open up this pickle jar?"

reply

Was it Strike force that did cards with "unknowns" and "new fighters"? I liked that idea...the UFC could do that and save bigger names for bigger cards. I honestly think the UFC could improve by getting rid of the PPV idea too.

reply

Well the way the UFC has it right now they get most if not all of top talent from all around. For whatever reason be it money, rankings or exposure tbe UFC wlis the penacle right now for MMA. Is there really a contender right now?

"Hi, excuse me. Can you use your karate to open up this pickle jar?"

reply

Honestly, I don't know. How do Bellator cards do ratings wise?

I can't really watch much Bellator here because there aren't that many streams and I for sure am not using a VPN to watch live.

The better smaller orgs have made deals to show their fights on UFC TV (smart, but also making a deal with the Devil).

I'm surprised the OneFC isn't getting bigger. They have the Asian market well in hand and seem to pay well. Plus, I feel that their rule set might be more appealing.

reply

I watch plenty of other mma organizations like king of the cage and gladiator challenge. rarely do i buy ufc pay per view shows
