Near the end, when Graysmith goes to see Arthur Leigh Allen at the Ace Hardware he works at...

A caption says the date is December 20th, 1983, but Arthur Leigh Allen is standing in front of a prominently displayed calendar showing February, 1980.

Why?

Probably for continuity of characterization : we know Allen is quite the slob from the state his trailer was in when Toschi searched it, and he most likely wouldn't care about leaving an outdated calendar at his workplace...
Also maybe a subtle nod to one of the main themes of the film which is people being stuck in the past ?

Interesting interpretations!

I love this scene, it’s really interesting and very powerful. The long stare from Graysmith and the look in Allen’s eyes..he knows that Graysmith knows. It’s a great scene and it finishes the film off beautifully.

Fantastic film and well done David Fincher.

I watch this movie just for that scene. I thought it was just me. Then when the victim points to Allen at the airport(?) it gives me some sort of closure. But yeah, that stare Graysmith is wide-eyed and Allen actually looks nauseated---that's memory burned in me.

Fincher screwed up and didn't think anyone would really notice because the scene in question went by pretty quick.. I have to admit, I've seen this movie countless times and even I never noticed it.. I have the Director's Cut of ZODIAC
