How come the Zodiac Killer and Jack The Ripper are the only two unidentified serial killers who are famous? Why are other unidentified killers like The Texarkana Phantom Killer, Charlie - Chop Off, East Area Rapist/Original Night Stalker, The Freeway Phantom, Axeman of New Orleans, Monster of Florence, The Cleveland Torso Murderer, Long Island Killer/Gilgo Beach Killer, Honolulu Strangler,Gypsy Hill killer, Bible John, Atlanta Ripper,Lisbon Ripper, Alphabet Killer, Highway of Tears killer,Oakland County Child Killer,Daytona Beach killer,I-70 Killer and the doodler are so unrecognized and unnoticed compared to The Zodiac Killer and Jack the Ripper?

Maybe because Z and JTR toyed with police and wrote letters?

I would feel that his ability to garner media attention (largely through letters to the Chronicle and threats to blow up school buses) allowed him to leave an imprint on those who were living in the Bay area.

Remkinds me of these Youtube documentaries on serial killers from the '70's on up. I used to listen to them alone during my night job, but it got too unnerving to think these people walked among us.

Jack the Ripper was before serial killers were well known and he was a media sensation at the time. Zodiac taunted the cops ans public with letters.

It could also have something to do with the fact that their cases don't have enough survivors to tell the story. Just look at the case of the East Area Rapist/Original Night Stalker. Extremely demented and disturbing case, but not enough survivors to make a movie about. Given the fact that David Fincher made sure not to depict scenes in Zodiac that didn't have survivors to tell the story, he wanted to make it accurate as possible. If Hollywood tried making a movie about the EAR/ONS, it would basically be a bunch of rapes, a bunch of murders, and mostly scenes of the police trying to find the guy and just end up empty handed. Pretty pointless if you ask me.

Yes I was just going to mention the Original Night Stalker, he was a truly evil and brazen serial killer and one of the most prolific serial killers in history.
