The final diner scene between Tosci and Robert

Anyone else love this scene? I think it's such a great scene and Mark Ruffalo in particular is amazing in it. Tosci is thrilled that Robert also thinks that Allen is the killer and when Robert is telling him what he has found out you can see that it is case closed for Tosci personally, he knows his intuition was correct.

However he is a dedicated police officer and is bound by rules and a conscience, in all good conscience without any evidence no way was he going to do anything to Allen. He may believe Allen is the killer but without evidence he knows the courts won't prosecute him and that he can't arrest him. I love it when he looks at Robert and gives him this look and says "easy Dirty Harry", Dave was the cop Dirty Harry and Bullitt were inspired by and in this instance this cop is saying he can't take the law into his own hands like they would and hunt this man down because that's not how the system works.

I think this is the whole point of the film, we're being shown what real police work is like. It's nothing like in the film Dirty Harry and that is another reason I love this film so much because it shows that real police work is mostly questioning suspects and sorting through files and paperwork.

A great moment superbly acted by Mark and Jake.

Go to bed Frank or this is going to get ugly .

It's surely a good scene, cause it shows you what this movie is all about - a personal conviction. "Zodiac" is not about proof, not about objective truth about this case, but about subjective opinion about it, that's all.

I was personally deeply fascinated by this movie-story, watching it over and over again, until I finally did my research. Since then, I don't have that much of an appetite to watch it again, mainly cause now it looks very shallow to me.

One thing I loved about this scene is when the waitress puts the check on the table right after Toschi says "Jesus Christ". The meal is over; the case is closed.

Thanks for the post. Finally, somebody else gets it. This is one of my all time favorite scenes. When out in the theaters, would go every other day and see it, just to watch this scene. Love when Ruffalo says, "thank you. Thank you for breakfast." Talk about subtext.
