Scenes that cracked you up

Towards the end when the Zodiac sends his comeback letter to the Chronicle, there's a scene where Toschi calls in on the police box, then hops in his car and they do a totally cheesy 70s U-turn and peel out while Toschi slaps a flashing siren on the roof of the car. Anyone who grew up on 70s tv crime dramas (Starsky & Hutch, etc) had to be wetting themselves with laughter. I thought that was a great little comedy wink.

Practically any scene with R.D. Jr.

There are actually many 'dry' jokes in the movie, most by Paul Avery (Robert Downey Jr.)

The scene when Paul wonders what Robert is drinking and he tastes it, and both ending up drunk.

"Hey Shorty, how’s the coffee today?" (points towards sign with "COFFEE delicious as hell!"

When Roberts ask Shorty:
R: "Doesn't it bother you that people call you Shorty?"
S: "Does it bother you that people call you retard?"
R: "Nobody calls me that."
S: "Right..."

And then moments later, Robert asks Paul:
R: "Does anyone ever called me names or...?"
P: "You mean like retard?"
R: "Yeah!"
P: "No..."

The way Paul (Robert Downey) says it is exactly my taste of humour. Great scene and performance overall by Downey.

Interesting in that Sacid Fincher cast Robert Downy Jr. Based on his acting and unlike the rest of the cast that resembled their real life counterparts. Even Fincher said that he (himself) looked more like Paul Avery then RD jr.

To me Robert Downey Jr. looks good enough like the real Paul Avery. (Hair style, clothing etc). For example, Jake Gyllenhaal has a total different haircut than the real Robert Graysmith had in that time.

I think Gyllenhall and Graysmith have a resemblance. Also there are different ages for all of them. Like I've seen Graymith interviews when he was younger like Crimes of the Century bith look similar. Also, can't really judge by clothing cause that's cosmetic.

I have seen an interview with Avery and he had long hair and facial hair similar to RDjr.

The clothing was important, said during the making of video of the Zodiac. But yes, Jake Gyllenhaal looked good enough like the real Graysmith in the late 70s/80s.

reply

Yes but clothing is important for the movie I agree. I was referring to an actors everyday life appearance not their clothing.

Regardless, Jake is one of those people that likes to adapt to the role. I didn't recognize him at first in Nightcrawlers cause he lost so much weight. He'll bulk up, change hairstyle, slim down, grow a beard, etc. depending on the role.
