What's on Washington and Maple?

So the original destination for Zodiac's cab murder was Washington and Maple instead of Washington and Cherry. It's what Paul Stine logged in.

I've walked the area a few weeks ago during my first time visit to San Francisco. The houses are nice and big. But the corner of Washington and Maple that's 1 block away from Cherry Street doesn't look residential.

In fact, some theorize (including myself) that Zodiac may have even written the Stine letter ahead of time and put the shirt in after and sent it neglecting to correct that Zodiac ended up on Cherry instead.

However, maybe Zodiac couldn't remember the name of the street they ended up on. Back then no google maps. Maybe didn't have a map handy. So maybe he knew of a public address that's Washington and Maple that would be closed on a Saturday night. They ended up at that destination but something made him nervous that he asked the driver to go down a block.

By the time he wrote the letter he couldnt remember Cherry so he put Maple.

If that's the case, Zodiac may not be too familiar with Presidio Heights and only scouted the scene once. Someone who doesn't live in the area and wants to commit a risky crime where he almost got caught would have came at least once during the day or maybe night to plan out the escape route.

I mean I remember on AMW they covered a story where a masked man came into the bar after it closed and killed someone and injuring someone else. The whole thing was caught on security. While they haven't caught the person they saw in the footage during the day a man walking similarly to the masked man with same height and weight and posture walking around and observing the location.

The Stine letter says "BY" Washington and Maple, not "at." That's an important distinction.

Tbats correct. So maybe the theory of it being written ahead of time might not be correct.

But still makes me wonder what's on Maple Street that made him make a last minute decision to move down a block.

In the letter he writes by Maple and he tells him to take him to Maple. It can somewhat prove that Zodiac wasnt too familiar with Presidio Heights.

My guess is Zodiac probably scouted the area a few times before and knee of Maple Street and that it would be safe that particular time only it wasn't and had to go plan B.

But it can also disprove the theory that Zodiac was s resident in the area cause someone who did would remember the right Street.
