Why people say 2007 Oscars?

People keep saying this movie got snubbed in 2007. But wouldn't this movie only be eligible for 2008 Oscars? I recall this movie was released sometime in mid or late March 2007 and the Academy Awards are always end of February. So this movie wasn't eligible for 2007. It was for the 2008 Oscars.

When people says [Year] Oscars, it can refer to the year the ceremony is broadcasted or the year of release of the nominated movies.

But I think most people are referring to the 2007 ceremony cause of the movies they mentioned that won the 2007 ceremonies,
