Really? Monster of the week as a movie? That too, a terrible monster?

Was Carter high when working on this movie or what? For a movie, fans expect them to close plot holes/explain things, instead, they ignore it all and go for monster of the week crap?

Let's not forget the fact that major characters from Season 8-9 are missing completely. Apparently they went for monster of the week for people who had no idea about the show's lore.. which is beyond stupid.

I enjoyed the first movie. No idea what they were thinking with this disaster. The worst part is, I saw this movie just after I was done binge watching season 7, 8 and 9. I was expecting this movie to give me answers.

4/10.. and four because of chemistry between Mulder and Scully still working. Rest of the movie is a forgettable mess.

PS: This is the same level of stupid as killing The Lone Gunmen in a *beep* episode filled the monster of the week. That was just beyond awful.

Imagine how I felt as a fan during the original run. I waited six yeas for a follow up movie.

I actually enjoyed this movie. It was not of a Mulder and Scully movie with the MOTW as the backdrop. It's always great to see those two back in action

I enjoyed it too.

No shortage of threads like this though where the explanation of preconceived notions getting in the way of objectivity is provided by the OP himself...going into a movie "expecting" something, not getting it, and using that as the reasoning for coming to the conclusion that what WAS offered wasn't any good.

Agreed. I meant "more of a Mulder and Scully movie" btw. But yes. Just because a movie didn't meet your expectations of it, doesn't mean it failed at all

Carter was given a 35 million dollar budget, considering how expensive those mythology episodes used to be, they may not have had enough money for that kinds of movie.

Same thing happened again with the recent 6 episode return of the X-Files, the most comedic episode of the entire series was placed in this line, instead of dwelling further on the important issues--the main story arc regarding the Government Conspiracy, Unidentified Flying Objects, the failed Alien Invasion of 2012, and the Apocalyptic Invasion still to come.

Though I will admit, this movie was ten times better than that comedic episode.

After re-watching this, the script feels better suited to a Millennium story in every possible aspect. But not even as a movie, more like a two part episode. It seems more likely that Whitney would call in Frank Black, especially with the religious bent. Overall, this was so weak and so low key, its hard to believe Carter actually thought this would do well enough to warrant and third film

I was really disappointed with this film, too. It feels like a tv show and not a theatrical film, unlike the first movie which did have a decidedly theatrical feel to it.
